I do exactly that with my Respironics Deluxe 3" Wide White Chin Strap & it does work. Of course, I have 3" of Chin Strap to work with, so I can put it so it is just under my lower lip & there is still enough left to also keep it under my chin. I think that works much better than just having it under your chin.
The big drawback to my Chin Strap though is that it is 3" wide the whole length. So, it covers a lot of the sides of your face & also your ears.
I have not yet tried just the method mentioned by Avi, but it may be a way for me to get rid of my wide Chin Strap.

And I too have a collection of earlier failed chinstraps, and taping has been tried by me and found impractical due to my moustache and light beard and I refuse to radically change my appearance by shaving it off.
So please keep us posted with your latest efforts to get or make one that really keeps the lips together and ends all mouth breathing. I am getting tired of the nightly pre-ritual of Biotene rinse, followed by XyliMelts, followed by sugarless fruit flavored lozenges and still waking up with dry mouth! And I refuse to give up my Wisp for a FFM! This has got to be solvable! I appreciate your efforts and look forward to your followup report.

I'm kind of coming around to the same conclusion about the lower lip. Instead of pulling the chinstrap up what I've tried in the last week or two is just putting a small strip of NexCare 3M tape over my lips. Both the chinstrap and the tape appear to stop the leaks thru my mouth. It's still in test mode but the results look promising. I guess my early summary is that the 1/2" vertical strip of tape stops leaks by keeping my lips sealed and the chinstrap keeps my tongue from sliding back in my throat (which is a big annoyance and guaranteed to wake up anybody).

The DME sent me a chin strap called Care Fusion (made in USA). Never used a chin strap before. To keep my jaw stable I think I tightened it too much and ended up with bad pain in my jaw. I had to loosen it. Result: leaks very high with 30.0@95% last night-night before 26.0@95%. Positive: less dry mouth overall the last two nights I've used it. To be sure, I don't know if the chin strap is the culprit for leaks or the Swift FX that I'm trying out the last two nights.

I would extend the behind the ears loops supports with a piece of a velcro strap to go around the head.
But if I was trying to use it, then the strip below the nose would interfere with the sealing of my nasal mask at the same place:

Nate, in the few hours since I posted this "Adjustable Mouth Closed Jaw Up Breathing CPAP Strap"
by Mouth Strap on this website, its price at Amazon jumped from $14.99 to $24.99 and also its name changed.

But the actual inventor of this "lips strap" is no other than Dr Michael Berthon- Jones of Resmed. Do you recall my recent post covering this patent when you reacted that you're NOT going to clamp your lips like that?

OK I got that Mouth Strap. It's not good for me b/c it's too flimsy (weak), and also b/c it did not come with model.
