throat dryness?
throat dryness?
I've been able to doze off with the machine on twice so far, but after an hour of sleep I seem to wake up with a dry throat and the urge to cough. The humidifier is set to "2". I also have seasonal allergies that are bad this year, even with daily Nasonex use.

Re: throat dryness?
Hi Ellen,
Not sure I can be of much help. I did turn my humidity up to 3 last night and found that an inexpensive cup with soft"straw" never used by dear grandson slips in lips enough to take a small sip of water when need, I am using nasal pillows though.

Re: throat dryness?
Spend some quality time with the machine awake during the daytime. About half of it should be in bed learning to breath quietly. The machine will tend you to use more air. You need to match what you use when you do not have the machine on but are quietly resting in bed. You should use no more air than that!ellen1159 wrote:I've been able to doze off with the machine on twice so far, but after an hour of sleep I seem to wake up with a dry throat and the urge to cough. Also some time taking those reflexes you developed in the bedtime time and using them while watching light TV, or listening to music, or reading a book.
I really can tell you that I have learned to breath less and enjoy it more. I enjoy the smell of flowers without drugs. I love that!!
Have a great weekend!

Re: throat dryness?
I've got the full face mask and I use a liner to prevent leaks, so I'm trying not to get up for drinks of water because that's all I would do
Perhaps Todzo is right and I'm rushing things: I'm such a physical mess I want to get going with the machine full time ASAP, but I'm still fighting the air pressure with my breathing.
Is the dial for the humidifier setting just to make the water warmer, or to up the moisture level?

You seem to have a machine similar to mine. If so, the setting seems to act like turning the heat up on a burner (but much lower levels). More heat more humidity. Will warm the air a bit.
This summer I am enjoying to a greater extent what I enjoyed last summer. Smelling flowers!! I used to have seasonal allergies but taught myself how to do pulse oximeter guided eucapnic breathing. I use a lot less air, metabolism and circulation are better facilitated and my nose is very happy.
Do not let the xPAP make you use too much air. Breath no more air than you would use if the machine were not there. For me this makes the humidity setting irrelevant in terms of nasal comfort. My nose and airway are moist, warm, and happy.
Relax and breath slow and gentile. You are at rest after all.
Have a great week!

Re: throat dryness?
I noticed yesterday that I was inhaling much longer and deeper than I usually do and was having trouble exhaling with the same depth and length. It's almost like a fight to see who'll win, me or the air pressure. I will look up that type of breathing you described.Do not let the xPAP make you use too much air. Fortunately, the mask liner I got has really helped with the leaks so I'm not fidgeting with the straps as much. Another small victory!
