Now, I don't care what the headgear looks like, but the first mfg'r to come out with a ball joint at the hose and another one at the frame/mask interface... I'm all over it!

No not wonky headgear at all if someone has used the Swift FX nasal pillow mask system. It might appear odd so someone using a different type of mask though...if they had never seen the Swift FX nasal pillow headgear. The headgear appears identical to me too. Looks to me like the nose cushion should be interchangeable with the other parts that come with the Swift FX nasal pillow system so maybe they got smart and now we have a Swift FX nose cushion as well as the traditional nasal pillows interface and the parts are all compatible and that would mean someone could use the Bella Loops with it but I don't know if the tension provided would be enough to keep the seal on the cushion. Only way to find out...try it.

Not available in the US right now. Looks like our Aussie friends got first rites of trial this time. With the traditional Swift FX nasal pillows it was Europe who got first rites with it. Unknown time frame for US sales right now. With the first Swift FX it was several months...hopefully this one won't take so long.

Or maybe a few of our Aussie friends who have been using the traditional Swift FX nasal pillows can get a hold of a cushion and see if it works with the regular headgear stuff.
Or maybe bootleg some cushions to willing guinea pigs here in the US.

Just checked out a supplier in aus $275!!!! I will do some further research and see if I can get just a cushion. I'd be happy to be a go between for mask purchases

I should have spoken sooner...

I've been using the ResMed - Swift FX Nano (Standard Size) for the past 7 days but let me explain how I ended up switching masks for it. When I was first diagnosed almost 2 years ago I was using a ResMed Mirage Activa Nasal Mask and right out of the gates I experienced a sore red mark on the bridge of my nose, I proceeded to call the office where I had conducted the sleep study and they told me that because I was just getting used to the mask it would eventually go away. Well, let me tell you that never happened and the mark continued. I endured this red line across the top of my nose for quite some time thinking that it would indeed go away. I could no longer take the quick fixes by placing Band-Aids across my nose, cloth cut-outs and refused to purchase a Gecko Nasal Pad knowing that I'd be paying roughly an extra dollar for the rest of my life. Absolutely not, I refused to think that there wasn't a mask out there that would never leave those painful marks on my nose.

After much research I honed in on the idea of utilizing the nasal pillows to eliminate the redness, I tried the Swift FX ones and after a few days I had sores on the inside of my nostrils (which was to be expected as my body was getting used to the new pressure point) but most alarming was the fact that I started experiencing vertigo as I slept with it during the night making it quite a task should I need to get out of bed, so I returned it. My next mask was the Fisher & Paykel Zest Q and it was the worst of all the masks I've had, the red mark it created on the bridge of my nose was deep red and included a bump.

Now, I sleep on my back 95% of the time, have a goatee and turn my head to the right instinctively and that is where I think the mask tightens down on my nose so I'm pretty sure that I'll never use a mask that has any sort of hard plastic involved in the construction ever again! Once again I needed to take another mask back, this time I pleaded with the CPAP technician to get me something that would be soft and gentle on my nose. She recommended that I use this new mask that had just arrived, the ResMed Swift FX Nano which looked and felt really comfortable, could this be the answer?

I purchased the mask and anxiously waited to try it during the night, so once I was sleeping it really didn't bother me at all and I awoke with no marks on my nose. With the first night being so great my anxiety started to subside. The second night of sleep was different I noticed that the mask was sliding upwards and the underside of the nasal cushion was touching the base of my nose where the nostril are, I continued to adjust the straps a little tighter and fell back asleep. When I awoke in the morning there was a red sore that was bleeding exactly where I experienced the unit touching my nose so once again it seems like I'm destined to have sores or marks on my nose. Now the next few nights it was much the same and I tried different strap locations to stop the unit from riding up my face and touching my nose, the manufacturer suggests that the back straps remain in line with the top of your ears. This doesn't work for me and I found that moving the straps closer to the nape of my neck holds the mask a little better, except the construction of the strap causes an issue where the material for the back of the head and the one for the top of your head meet is situated right on top of my ears and this also causes soreness. I think to effectively design this unit for a little more comfort the manufacturer should have added another strap to go under the ears itself thus allowing better adjustments for those that have issues like myself!

How about I just send you a nasal pillow for you to have and try to see if it will work with your headgear stuff?
That's a much cheaper way to answer that question.
I am curious as to whether the pieces are interchangeable......but not $250 worth of curious. I have no desire to use the Nano myself. I just wanted to see if the parts would work..

I sent you a private message. I can give you a couple of Swift FX nasal pillows to try to see if they will work with your headgear.

Hans, thanks for your very interesting story! Your point emphasized in red seems to coincide with my posted comment above comparing the Nano design with the Wisp. What you are describing in red sounds like the Wisp.

Well Nate, I agree with everything you stated... I missed your comment because I had left the CPAP Talk window open on my computer the day before and today I came back to climb on my soapbox to finish my rant.

I wish that the strap used in the Wisp was available for my Swift FX Nano

I have been checking out websites and the only place I can get the cushion is from New Zealand, for about $80. I can't afford atm to buy one.

The more I look at the photo's of the nano the headgear looks the same as the nasal pillow. Anyway if I do get a nano, I'll update the board with my findings.

I tried to order this through my DME. They were informed that the mask isn't yet available for purchase, but should be in about 3 weeks.

Well... I've figured out how to alleviate the pressure on my nose!

It's a simple fix and oddly enough all it took was loosening the straps to the point where the mask was fully inflated and not allowing any air to leak out. I still however have some issues with the construction of the strap placements, it would have been so much better had ResMed included another strap that was positioned under the ears thus holding the mask from riding up the nose.

Does anyone know of a company that makes additional straps you can add to a mask or do I need to get some Lycra and some Velcro to make my own?

Just wanted to update the NANO thread. So The other day my supplier called and told me they had a Swift Fx NANO put aside for me to try. I was previously trying the Eson, and the Swift Fx. (In my area we have a trial period, before being put on you "own" machine and mask). I liked both masks, and was anxious to try the NANO.

It's been three nights, and so far I LOVE IT!!! I find it light and comfortable to wear. Minimal leaks (mostly at the bridge of my nose) but those are easily fixed. And it comes with the headgear cheek pads! It has an interesting sort of hinge type swivel where the hose joins the nose piece. It's hard to explain, but where the hose goes into the nose piece, that area is able to sort of collapse depending on your movements. The hose also has incredible range of movement.

As far as I can tell, the Swift Fx headgear will fit the NANO nose piece. The only difference might be the hose. I'm pretty sure that would be interchangeable as well. Because when I picked up the Swift FX to try, they had to put the NANO hose with it. Now, I'm not 100% sure, but that would be something to look into further, if you wanted too.

I highly recommenced this mask!!!

Just sucks that I can only choose machines they offer... and none of them have full reporting other than usage. But hey, it's free. (Government Health Care subsidized)
