Just ignore it. I've only been here two weeks and I've seen this before. Keep in mind that the board is full of a bunch of grumpy old people who don't sleep well and have a hard time disagreeing civilly. You know -- "And all you damn kids get off a my lawn!"
Move along folks.. there's nothing to see here.

He was holding down a six-figure job and lost it through no fault of his own. He has not said he does not feel capable of finding another job.

Haha, what? Are you serious?
No, I am not kidding. There are many people that lie on this forum as with any anonymous internet forum.

he feels like crap
You know well that there are dozens of forum members who analyze data to the nth degree and still do not feel well.
But that is no reason for Black Shampoo to use a brick.

Black Shampoo, If you are serious about monitoring your data, Avi has posted an easy and cheap solution.
This is very helpful and I don't know why Black Spinner insults him for doing some research and offering a good solution.

Many people here have given you good advice about your situation. Either.......
Go to secondwindcpap.com and look for a machine there.
Craigslist is a good place as well to look for a machine. If you live in or near a large city, you will have better luck.
Watch here for someone selling one.
Talk to your DME and see if you can rent a data-capable auto for 2-3 weeks.
I highly doubt that you will be able to get the DME to do anything for you at this point. If you have gone past the rental and the machine is paid off, they have no reason to.
If you search through the archives, you will find posts on how to monitor your therapy without data. A long time ago, not many machines had data and you had to tweak your therapy based on how you felt. Not much different today and yes it can be done. The data makes it faster to make changes. I remember that the gist of it was to raise/lower your pressure by .5 cm/h2o and try it for a few days and see how you feel. You will need your titration study results in order to get a basis where to start.

So what. He has OSA. He lives in the USA and worked for a non profit agency, depending on where he lives he hasn't a snowball's chance in hell in finding a decent job in the next 6 months because you know austerity? Do you read the news? He probably doesn't want to waste any savings he had buying a second machine.
So he is sleep deprived and feeling like crap and unemployed he doesn't need an asshole like you to kick him when he is down. So unless you have a solution, get back under your rock.
And I notice you don't have YOUR equipment listed. Just another troll?

A "brick" machine will give you adequate treatment. Actually the same treatment you would get with a machine that gives you data. The data is the ONLY difference. I used a "brick" for the first 4+ years of my therapy. I did just fine following the pressure I was given at my titration. After 1 year I borrowed an AUTO machine from a friend and determined that my pressure needed to be increased by 2. 4 years later I purchased an Autoset on Craigslist. After 2 months of use...I am still at approximately the same pressure +/- 1 that I used for my first 5 years. Nothing wrong with a "brick". Now that I have the daily data...I followed it for several weeks until I determined that it was a waste of time...nothing much changed. Who cares if 1 day I am at an AHI of 1.5 and the next day I am at 3.0....Now I check my data once a week, but in the past month I have seen no reason to make any changes. I expect that I will start to check my data every 2-3 weeks.

I've had it for 5 months and feel zero difference in my energy level. I'm still generally exhausted all of the time, I'm irritable. I sleep about 10 hrs. a night now that I'm unemployed, and I never really feel "rested." Dr. says "everything's working right."
This is why the frustration over the brick. Yes, it works great as long as everything is optimal...maybe things aren't optimal.
Anyone wonder how the doctor has any way in hell to know that "everything's working right." ?????

My recent discovery: Obstructive Sleep Apnea has a strong association with Tourette's syndrome:

No wonder that so many posters on this board (including mollete) are using 4 letter words.

Do you have any other health issues like diabetes that could be contributing to the way you feel?
