Maybe. Truth is that lots of folks start out with full-face masks (FFM) for that reason, but then switch to nasal masks because of problems with the full-face masks, such as TMJ problems, increased apnea, and claustrophobia. Give an FFM a try though, you need to start somewhere. You'll know soon enough if there's a problem with it. Often, before folks can switch over to nasal masks they have to do something about nasal congestion.
wdjensen123 wrote:I am looking for that Encore Pro software. Can I use just any smart card reader with this software?
Nope, only the Mako (aka Infineer) 3500 or 3000 (I think) card readers work. You can find it at 2factors.com for $30.80. You'll need the special Respironics driver also which is available at 2factors.

You don't need a prescription for the humidifier, so you can get one from any on-line vendor.

Bill

Bill,

Excuse me for not reading your post carefully. I see that you knew about the card reader and software.

Nighthawkeye Bill,

What Respironics driver are you speaking off? I didn't have to purchase any special driver from 2factors when I got my card reader. Isn't it built into the Encore Pro software? It's been awhile since I loaded my reader, software, etc., but I know I didn't do anything special regarding an additional purchase of a driver for the card reader.

The driver is a no-cost item, Lori. 2factors actually has it labelled as Installer though rather than driver. The regular driver for the smart card is not used.

Here's the link to the 2factors website:
http://www.2factors.com/index.php?sp=&p ... s=&lang=en
In the lower right hand corner you can see the "Installer for Encore Pro".

Bill

Bill,

For the life of me, I didn't do any of this when I set up my card reader. How is that possible? I didn't go back to their web site and download this driver file. I just clicked on the link in your post and never did anything like this. So how did my card reader end up working without a glitch? Now I'm confused. Not that it takes much but...

I do remember being advised not to connect my card reader to the computer until all the software for my Encore Pro was installed. Then to finally hook it up via USB and use the reader.

I had a file someone had sent me before I did my installs, so I'm going to go back to my files and see if I saved it. If I did, I'll be back to tell you what I did. If not, I may be in trouble since I just ordered a second one for my son's computer since he's on cpap, too, every night.

Addition after initial post:

Bill,
Below I am going to paste what I had saved (yes, I'm a good packrat, but it comes in handy sometimes) which are instructions on how to load my software/reader and it get it going. It worked like a charm. Mind you, this was just shy a year ago, back in July of 2005, so things may have changed. But this worked for me without the driver you linked to in your post:

1) Install the Encore Pro from the CD
2) Went to http://software.respironics.com/cgi-bin ... ge=[Encore] and downloaded two updates: (a) Encore Pro v1.4i Rev 4 Upgrade and (b) Encore Pro v1.4i Service Pack 1. I installed the updates in that order
3) On my Encore Pro CD, there is a subdirectory called "Smart Card Readers". There is a file in named setup.exe that will install the Infineer/Mako drivers. You'll want to choose the DT3500 (USB) option when it asks you.
4) Reboot if it asks you to (can't remember), plug in your reader, and go.
5) Start Encore Pro, go to Preferences, make sure you've chosen "USB" as Smart Card Reader Type.

It's important that you don't plug in the reader until after Encore Pro and the drivers are installed.

Interesting, Lori. I imagine it must be the same driver.

Some of us have discovered that breathing humidified, filetered (fine filtered) air every night has done marvels for allergies and congestion. You might be one of those.

Get - and use - the fine fiters, wash the wahsable ones according to the instructions, and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hello All,

Thank you all for your tips and help. I hope the Remstar comes in OK. I also bought the Remstar Pro Cflex and heated Humidifier from that shady MarkUSA2000 on Yahoo. I was able to get his phone number and address and left a message about it. Plan is to use the humidifier and sell the Remstar Pro somewhere. You always take a bit of a risk with these things, but I like using Paypal for such.

Still looking for a copy to buy of Encore Pro if anyone has it.

Sincerely,
Bill Jensen

Hello All,

The Remstar Auto with C-flex has come in the mail today.

It turns on, functions well, enters and maneuvers through the provider setup screens. As a bonus, it came with the heated humidifier. My mask comes maybe tomorrow, and the reader comes next week from Hong Kong.

I now have the Encore Pro software 1.5.77 and MAKO reader drivers installed, if anyone needs help there.

Is there an online manual for the user anywhere? I bought the Provider manual and got that already off Ebay. How does the user change the lights on/off and alert beep for mask off?

I hope this works, it is kind of exciting. Makes me feel like an astronaut.

Sincerely,
Bill Jensen

Oh, and is there a way to adjust the heat on the heated humidifier, or is it just a toggle on/off button on the top of the Remstar?

Hi All,

The Remstar C-flex is no longer available.

I now have the Remstar Auto cflex manual thanks to an anonymous benefactor.

Sincerely,
Bill Jensen
