Yes. If you must know, I am
that Loreena Mckennitt--the Canadian singer, composer, harpist, accordionist and pianist who writes, records and performs world music with Celtic and Middle Eastern themes. You lucky ducks.

I'm really not a Sheriff. I am a county detective. I primarily deal with homicides but have worked missing persons and thefts. When my oldest son watched Smokey and the Bandit for the first time, he rolled on the floor when Sheriff Buford T Justice first rolled on the scene. He said that was me... I like to think I'm more like Clint Eastwood, but I have kicked a few suspects in the butt as a "attention-getter'".

A lot of people that come here do so because they are unhappy with their treatment and are looking for help. Probably not common, but some sleep doctors/DMEs watch the forum. Using our real names *could* cause issues with our medical team if they see us here complaining about them.
This forum is a fabulous place for help and support and I wouldn't trade it for anything. But posting specifics about your life ANYWHERE on the internet has the potential to bite you in the ass. Using an alias might give you a level of protection you wouldn't have if you used your real name.

by who
The last guy who stole my identity begged me to take it back after a few days.
I said, 'no thanks.'
(Isn't that right, jnk?)

And why do people change aliases every so often?
Just wonderin'!!
Sorry I'm a little late to the conversation here. Hey original poster, I am willing to bet the name on your birth certificate is not "pikov22"....
However, if it is, you have the coolest parents ever.

Some people have worn out their welcome with one screen name so they sneak back in without getting caught.
Some people feel their private life real name is just what I said...private. There's a bunch of sickos out there...never know who might be stalking whom in today's cyber world.
Some just like creative screen ID names just for fun...imaginative names.
Call me old-fashioned but I find it difficult to have a serious discussion with someone who is hiding their identity. (Not you, Pugsy. I know your name. :~>)
I hate it when strangers call me "Pikov", especially in a doctor's office.
I have known all of my Dr's and DME/RT names and there are some that I can't have a serious discussion with because they don't have a clue. I evaluate the information that I read here and decide what information to use and what may work for me.
My AHI was over 5 and I had so much air in my stomach that I couldn't take a step without a fart. All the people with names that I knew made minor adjustments to my CPAP pressure and told me to be patient. The people here said demand an APAP with data and make small changes as needed. 30 days on APAP, AHI is 1.2, feel great and people don't laugh when I walk by.
I was fired from a job of 17 years 5 months ago because of S/A and am just now ready to go back to work because of people who I don't know their real name. You can't teach hands on experience and common sense.

I like it here.
But it took me a little time to learn everyone's reputation and style. It was worth it to learn the ropes before I started spouting off too much and arguing with everyone and challenging every statement that wasn't made exactly to my liking. Especially so when asking for input and help. It was only later I turned into the argumentative, opinionated troll I am today.
But hey, that's just me.
Well, I'm way ahead of you! I have a right to be a grumpy old man, man!
