Score arousal during sleep stages N1, N2, N3, or R if there is an abrupt shift of EEG frequency including alpha, theta and/or frequencies greater than 16 Hz (but not spindles) that lasts at least 3 seconds, with at least 10 seconds of stable sleep preceding the change. Scoring of arousal during REM requires a concurrent increase in submental EMG lasting at least 1 second.
I think that definition is likely to cause even more confusion :p

Then you should help make sure that doesn't happen.

Maybe a little off topic - but do you ever see patient's with delta waves that "look" like arousals after an event (but cannot be scored)? I tend to see this often with PLMS.

Delta or K-bursts?

Sure.

However, in order to keep the audience, you have to come up with "interesting" stuff that people have at least some chance to relate to.

Suchaslike for example:

Did you know that PLMs will sometimes "announce" their coming by throwing a K-complex?

Or:

"Mature" people are often cheated out of getting a lot their SWS scored because of arbitrary AASM scoring rules.

Or better yet:

If the Mets had collectively half a brain they never would have let Jose Reyes go.

Couldn't agree more with that. When you "know" they're in SWS but technically not.

The AASM police have been notified of your post. A "team" should be arriving at your door shortly.

In between rounds, could you please have her ask them to clarify whether arousals will still even exist in sleep medicine once the only people in business are the OCST people at independent diagnostic testing facilities?

What about the Marlins?

Well, with Sleep HealthCenters closing, and my sources tell me another major HST player is going down, it may be that the only testing available will be non-AASM-accredited mail order services (and those people aren't sending out 4000$ testing units, either).

The prophecy continues:
