I just stumbled upon this thread after returning a PR System One REMStar 60 Series Auto with Bluetooth, humidifier and heated hose after one night of usage. It exhibited the increased whining noise on inhalation described elsewhere in this thread. (No A-Flex in use, so it's not a factor - pressure setting 10 - 15).) The vendor, our esteemed host CPAP.com insists that the noise is normal, but returned my purchase price anyway, "as a favor", although I'm out the return shipping cost. I think I'll keep away from Respironics based on this thread and CPAP.com based on their claim of no fault with the device, although it seems to be well documented on the site they support.

No such problems with my two aging Resmeds, and my S8s seem to be of much better build quality than the PR System One, like metal connections between the unit and humidifier in lieu of all plastic. Did I mention that the 6 year old Resmeds are quieter than the Respironics I returned? I know, that shouldn't be. I would expect CPAP.com to notice that too.

It's "the luck of the draw". About a year into using my first REMstar Pro 2, it started developing a "wheeze" in the motor during the C-Flex cycle. I sent it back to CPAP.COM who sent it in to the factory. It was fixed under warranty and has been super quiet ever since. Many people using virtually EVERY brand of machine have experienced "noises" they find objectionable. If we bad-mouthed every one of those brands, nobody would buy anything or be using this therapy.
To reject any one brand because of things that may possibly go wrong with them is silly.
All ten of my machines (in my profile) are super quiet and that's one reason I prefer them and that generation of them.

Your expectations are unfounded.

Your expectations are unfounded.
I agree that some purchases are going to result in a defective product. I'm no stranger to that. What upsets me it that the vendor failed to acknowledge an obvious and, according to this forum a known defect, not to mention the machine was brand new. I called an hour after I opened the box and was asked to try it for a night to see if it self-corrected. CPAP.com had the machine for 4 days before telling me that it would take 3 to 6 weeks to resolve the issue. That's when I hit the roof. I think it's totally unreasonable that I might end up with a reconditioned machine for my new item purchase price, not to mention 6 weeks with nothing to show for my purchase price. Other vendors have sent me return shipping labels and shipped replacements immediately before receiving the return (with the caveat of being charged if the return is not received in x days).

As to other experiences, I've had three previous machines, a Respironics and two Resmeds. Never any problem with the Resmeds, several problems with the Respironics, so ignoring that in light of my current experience would be foolish.

WTF???
What "known defect"?

Three to six weeks would be the approximate turnaround time to send it into the factory for repairs. And, after the DID fix it, it would STILL be a "reconditioned" machine.......but working properly.......and still "new".

That's about what it was when I sent my year-old machine into CPAP.COM under warranty for repairs. They sent it in to Respironics and they repaired it.......and I got the SAME machine back. The only thing I didn't like is that Respironics upgraded the firmware from 2.5 to 2.7. I have machines with every firmware level and the ones above 2.5 have idiosyncrasies that I don't like as well as the 2.5. But, they fixed the problem and it's been super quiet ever since.

I've read many posts about various problems with ResMed machines over the years, too.......every generation.

YOUR expectations are not only unfounded but unreasonable.

It's still "the luck of the draw".
