I had something similar one time. I'd smell a sour smell from time to time. I kept checking my clothes, and trying to be extra careful in my showering, etc. I couldn't find anything. I finally figured it was the lanyard I wear around my neck pretty much all the time. It's there all the time, so it's sort of become invisible to me.

Check that you don't have something on you or near you all the time that is the source of the smell.

I bet its the vinegar you are washing your gear in. Vinegar smells awful, like a sour smell as you describe. If you wash your headgear in vinegar its likely making you smell "sour" unless you rinse the stuff out REALLY thoroughly before putting on your headgear.

The most obvious answer is not always wrong. I would not bet against you Eric.

To the author of this thread... I think this is happening to me. I have a sour body odor after a year of CPAP treatment. Can you please tell me any info you discovered about this.

Ah. That explains it, then.

It is my understanding that most zombies are known to have some issues with sour body odor.

the author of this thread hasn't been here in over 10 years, so unlikely to pop on now to answer your question.

My wife has been complaining that lately I have a bad sour body odor similar to mold.
The humidifier rarely needs cleaning if you use distilled water and take normal precautions.

I would say you need the shower, not the humidifier.

I’ve used nothing but distilled water, and in the first few months that I began cpap therapy, I cleaned my water vessel sporadically. One day I took the time to really clean the tank and kept getting pinkish/reddish streaks on the paper towels I was using. Finally out of curiosity, I held the water tank up to the bathroom light. Lo and behold there was a pinkish/reddish fuzzy growth in the corners of my tank. After reading about pink fungi and out of fear for my health, I committed myself to throughly washing my water vessel no less than 3 times a week, my mask daily and all other parts once a week. I normally change my filter about once a month. I also learned that environmental factors in the room figures into the fungi growth equation as well.

Read the label to make sure it doesn't indicate that minerals have been ADDed.

Exactly why I say it's not a good idea to leave your cpap supplies open to dry in the room air.

Since your wife is the person complaining of the odor, ask her to smell the machine to see if it's the source of the odor.

I would say that it has nothing to do with your CPAP. I would guess that it is something biologically happening within your body. You are getting to the age when things start changing. When I went through menopause, I found that I became more odiferous than I had been. A lot of women find themselves to have hot flashes, but for me it was that I could tolerate the heat better than I had. In the past I would become overwhelmed by heat and have a hard time functioning, not anymore.
I would talk to you Dr.; this is probably not related to your CPAP.

Here's another possibility.

Perhaps CPAP has "fixed" your sense of smell, and you're smelling an odor that's really been there all the time!
