I have three cats that all sleep in the bed with me. They heven't really had much interest in the hose nor the mask. When I first got the CPAP machine last month they started to get interested in it and sniff around. All I had to do was turn the machine on in the "fit test mode" and blew it at the cats. They ran and hid. Since then they haven't had much interest. I leave it out and hanging from my 4-poster headboard all day.

I wear Swift FX nasal pillow which vent out the front. They can't stand the air blowing in their faces, so I get the added advantage of not getting bothered by the cats during the night. They sleep at the foot of the bed.

LOL!
My cat ran at first too, but he epitomizes the curiosity aspect of felines and since then has way gotten over the air, to the point that sometimes I will wake up to find his nose hovering in the air stream (he likes my breath maybe? More likely he likes the humidity).

Picture that in your mind ... opening your eyes to find a cat 3 inches away. And of course the purr engine immediately sparks to life when my eyes open....

My cat is scared to death of the machine (I just started using one) but when he gets used to it, he may become a problem. I CAN close him out of my room, though!

The first night I used it, I didn't close my door and I felt him jump up on the bed. He never came up toward my head and I kind of lost track of him. But when I moved my leg I bumped him and he jumped and yowled and scrambled for the door. My daughter said he came running out with his tail all big and fluffed out! LOL!! I texted her to come close my door so I wouldn't have to unhook to get up and do it myself!

I'll be bookmarking this thread in case I need it in the future!

My thought is Tobasco Sauce, works like bitter apple for cats, but have plenty of water available for after the first lick. After that they will leave anything alone.

ps - anyone in the area of Jeffersonville, IN or Louisville, KY looking for a cat? I've got 2 accidental 'fosters' that need a home quick. One is a lovely longhair buff & white, the other is a very small black cat with beautiful orange eyes. First is fully vetted, the second comes with money for full vetting. Anyone interested PM me.
