I was thinking that AVEO might work with a nasal mask. It's a device that draws the tongue forward instead of the jaw. It's a little pricey at $100+, and it looks uncomfortable so I'm hesitant to try it. There are a couple threads here that talk about it which a search for AVEO should turn up. Maybe someone else will volunteer?

Huh. I actually got mine last week from Canada. I used it with the Pilairo and woke up with my mouth, well what is drier than the Sahara during a hot spell?, I dunno. So it didn't work with the mask. I tried it alone with the wings inserted under my gums (the whole way) in order for it to not pop out. I could sleep with it fine and it stayed in fine, which I was overjoyed about. I also slept with it while sitting in the lazyboy. But I felt crappy both days, so I think I have the double whammy of tongue and airway being both bad. Was really disappointed about this. However, I'm planning on losing 20 to 30 pounds so will try to see if it works then.

I appreciate the replies and the ideas. I got a call from the dental sleep guy's nurse/receptionist today. Turns out, there is an OA they can make designed to shut down mouth leak. I was told "it is a little pricey and kind of hard to work with, but they have one they can make." After using a Mirage Quattro FFM since 2007, Im pretty confident I can handle anything "difficult" and make it probably pretty easy. So Im going to go that direction, hopefully by March sometime I will have it made and be switched back to a Nasal Activa mask with LOOSE straps. I figure after sleeping with a cinched tight Quattro FFM since 2007, I will go thru a one month or more "muscle change" and sinus change. I know I can extend my head back normally on the nasal Activa, like in CPR you are taught to "fully open the airway by fully tilting the head all the way back." With the Quattro FFM cinched down tight, thats impossible and it has led to muscle/sinus compression problems separate from the sleep apnea.

I doubt many people could have tolerated the Quattro like I wear mine and would have long given up on CPAP therapy. But hey, whatever you gotta do you gotta do to stay alive. And I about died before I was put on CPAP in 2007, it did save my ass from becoming dead, no joke. So, no regrets but I need to make some changes in my setup.

That is really nice of you to offer to do that. But I will save you the hassle. It does not cost much to buy a couple boil in bite mouthguards here at Wal-Mart or Dicks Sporting goods.

Thanks for the video. I actually tried making one of those back in like, 2007 or maybe, 2008. But I made the mistake of not sticking two on top of each other immediately after I boiled them. I cant remember exactly what I did, I remember being in my old apartment doing the boil in a bite mouthguard thing and I think I only used one mouthpiece and it did not stop ANY air. So I gave up on it fast and went back to the Quattro.

Maybe sticking two together like that would actually work, I dont know.

The Resmed Quattro FFM DOES WORK well at shutting down mouth leak and handles jaw drop better than any mask Ive tried. But the Resmed claims that it is should "fit loose" and still not leak is just a line of bs to me. I just have not found that to be the case. Loose does equal comfortable while Im awake, but once asleep it equals leak city and constantly being woken up.

I dont know, different strokes for different folks. Maybe the Quattro works when fit loose for some people, I dont know. I just know Im not one of them.

I never tried them because I got pretty comfortable with my taping routine and I have a night guard my dentist custom made for me that I prefer to stick with. If you don't mind paying for shipping I'd be happy to send them to you. I know I won't be using them.
