I was reading this thread at lunch in a sports bar today when I looked up at a television and saw that golfer Vijay Singh is facing suspension for using deer antler spray. It is apparently banned by the PGA because it contains some growth hormone precursor.

I don't know about sleep but I have read some studies on using antler to help with joint issues.
At least it is a sustainable product since they get shed at certain times of the year.
As far a Chinese medicine is concerned I fully believe in acupressure/acupuncture and shiatsu. Oriental medicine has a different world view from Western Medicine and can be much more beneficial for chronic issues then the western piece meal approach.
The rest of you may want to try some Prairie Oysters as a tonic.

"An article in Sports Illustrated said Lewis sought help from a company that says its deer-antler spray and pills contain a banned product connected to human growth hormone."
So the spray and pills really are really related to performance-enhancing drugs which are banned for NFL player use. I guess the advantage of using products from deer are they act like human growth hormone but blood/urine test can't detect them because they are not EXACTLY the same biochemical structure. Has nothing to do with SLEEP.

Sorry, but antler supplement is widely thought by the Chinese to improve sleep (among many other things). Whether it does or not is another question.
I have never taken it.

There is a huge difference between "helps me sleep" and "Helps sleep apnea" Hot milk (calcium) helps some people sleep too.

Yea, the Chinese believe a lot things that are NOT true. Some of the very old Chinese herbal remedies might have some benefits because they've been used for centuries. I do not think substance from deer antlers was EVER an old Chinese remedy. It's more likely somebody figured out that the antlers never stop growing so there must be a substance in the antlers that causes continued growth. In HUMANS, human growth hormone is secreted by the pituitary gland in the center of the brain.
Wonder if humans grew horns or antlers that they would have growth hormone in them?
