I have just been diagnosed, at age 56. Like many others, I knew I had apnea for probably ten years or more but resisted getting treatment because, until the symptoms worsened, the cure seemed worse than the affliction. Then I had a heart attack a couple of years ago (stented). Even that didn't force me to get checked out! What did it was a recent worsening of my fatigue, mood and work performance to such a degree that I feared a second heart attack.

I am now just over one week into a CPAP trial and feeling much better than before. I can't honestly say I'm 100% and I doubt I ever will, unless I can get to the point where I sleep through the whole night undisturbed. I suppose it's possible.

It seems to me that, before treatment, I felt that I was sleeping well, yet woke up feeling like I hadn't slept at all. Now, I feel like I'm awake half the night (mostly wrestling with mask issues) and yet feel more rested the following day. The 'residual' tiredness I feel now could just be down to the frequent disturbances fragmenting what is otherwise good sleep?

To be honest, even if this is as good as it gets, I'm happy.

about a month ago..age 35. I always hated working in the mornings as I always felt so tired in the morning. My mom always used to tell me that my dad would wake up gasping for air and choking when they were together. But when i tell my dad i have sleep apnea, he would just say that it is because i gained weight the past 5 years. I am not fat at all but just gained a few kilos after chiildbirth. from this forum, I see that sleep apnea is not a fat person disease or an old person disease but society sure is not forgiving of people and always blame sicknesses on some sort of other underlying issue. I personally think that I probably gained the small weight due to the years of apnea that i had. You guys are so nice and supportive..wish those that i see face to face are like that too.

58, just serendipity as my husband commented on my snoring, otherwise, I would have presented with diabetes and a stroke. I think everyone should have one night with a recording oximeter like a cholesterol test once middle aged.

I have known for years, but when I started waking up gasping , no, begging for air, and my heart racing, I decided to get the sleepover. I had the forms ten years ago but never filled them out.
I have always been an early riser, but would fall asleep in the afternoon during a conversation, or at a stoplight. I am 54 and have been on the hose for four weeks tomorrow.
I am also waking up a few times a night wrestling with the mask or hose, but I seem to be sleeping better and for longer stints. I have not been nearly as sleepy in the afternoon. In fact people at work have mentioned it.
