I just opened the sealed bag for a new ResMed SoftGel Nasal Mask I just received.
The grey part comes already connected to the mask.
If you did not get it, someone removed it from the mask before they gave it to you.
That is 1 of many reasons why I like to get my stuff in "sealed" bags.

That piece is designed to allow you to use it as a quick connect to disconnect the hose from the mask. Unfortunately, it's too easy to leave it attached to the hose or otherwise lose the piece and not notice it. Quite a few people have had this problem. After the piece comes off, it's close enough to the right size to connect the hose to that lots of people don't realize it's missing.
You can order replacements online for $15 or so if your DME can't come up with one.

I find that it is easier to disconnect / connect the hose from the grey piece.

I got the gray pc attached to an elbow. I was afraid to take the elbow off the mask so looked up the cleaning video on the RESMED site. After I saw them remove it I saw it could be done w/o breaking something.
My hose is a 15cm as was the 1st one. The rubber bands wrapped tightly around the hose held it on quite nicely so that is a good trick for anyome who has that problem.
Thanks for all the help esp. Archangle. That was inspired!

A local "mom & pop" DME tried that on me when I bought a P/R comfortgel full face mask from them.
The packaging had already been opened, so I took a closer look.
Luckily, I was already familiar with the mask, and pointed out the missing part.
The salesperson quickly went to the back to retrieve the part.
Last mask I ever bought from them!

You know, we should really start insisting on factory sealed bags for all our CPAP masks and parts, and insist that the DME NOT touch the parts at all.
Act like you're a germophobe, not that you think they're incompetent or dishonest.

"I" DO always insist on a sealed bag.
Primarily for the cleanliness.
But, the DME usually has different excess parts strewn all over the office.
If they open my bag, some of my parts may be lost in those excess parts.
And they do routinely open other bags to pilfer an extra part I may request.
Besides, there is no useful purpose in them opening the bag (unless you need to try on the mask).

I've been having the same problem lately. The Climateline hose disconnects from the connector on the end of the short hose that's attached to the mask. It seems as the rubber cuff on the end of the hose ages it loses some of its elasticity, or it stretches, and doesn't grab the connector well enough to avoid coming loose sometimes.

How old is that ClimateLine hose?

Last night the hose stayed on just fine. Unfortunately when I woke up I realized the mask had slid up on my nose leaving the lower lip on the bottom of the mask. I reached up & grabbed the elbow to readjust. LOL. Well, it comes off pretty easy now.
When I got the mask I wanted to try some others as this was my 1st experience. However she said since this was the one I titrated with, it was the best choice- no need to experiment. She fitted it on me so the bag was opened. I stick pins in her doll each day so I am sure she has a headache.

You might try the rubber band trick. We used a very sturdy thick rubber band. Double it a couple times and slid it over the hose end then after the mask was attached I rolled it over the connection. Worked pretty good.
