In other words I can't buy a ASV type of machine with a cpap/apap RX. I would need to buy the type of device that my RX points to. That's pretty well standard with any online retailer.

You might try this link for a loaner home testing kit/device to get a new prescription:

I haven't bought anything from 800CPAP, but I've talked with their resident sleep tech, Mr. Smith (very nice and knowledgeable) about ASV/Bilevel prescriptions and he said an individual can get a valid ASV/Bilevel prescription via their home test kit under certain circumstances. As I understood it, after the initial test kit results, a 30 day trial on an auto machine is recommended, either your own or a loaner. Their resident sleep doctor then looks at your SD card's data. I could have got this confused tho, a lot of info was being thrown at me! He did say one drawback is that Medicare and many insurance companies may require you to get a sleep study from a brick and mortar shop (not surprisingly). You can take the prescription just about anywhere, even CPAP. com - I assume, which I love Anyway, call or email them to find out if this program helpful to you. BTW, they do sell the newer model refurb ResMed S9 Adapts at a decent price from time to time. Like I said, this is NOT an endorsement but simply a suggestion. Let the buyer beware.

Thanks for the thought but I didn't mean that I wanted a ASV machine. I don't see the need and my pocketbook sure can't afford it just for an experiment. Way too expensive for me just to play with. No way would I ever meet criteria because I just don't have the centrals anywhere near the number I would need to qualify for ASV.
I was just using my situation as an example.
Now if I ever find ASV type of machine here local on craigslist that is stupidly cheap...I might try it. just for grins.

Awwww, Pugsy. Is your lack of central events and CSR periodic breathing keeping you from the latest and greatest technology??? I feel your pain... you can have some of my centrals - just include a prepaid stamped envelope and I'll mail you a big batch. Alien Express.
