Try start8 from stardock.
http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/
It is only 5 bucks and it brings your start menu back! Now it feels more like windows 7
If you have a link to the encore software I would love to use it please. I had the UP3 surgery done last year and I just had a new sleep study done. It didn't help at all so I am back on a bipap machine this time. Trying to get use to it again.
Anyway thanks for the help in advance!!!

My Win7 emachine had Sleepyhead loaded in; and after DH loaded Win8, it still works.
But I really miss solitaire.

I am SLOWLY figuring it out...,..or actually I am figuring out how to "circumvent" the system to get what I need done . My old laptop fried 3 months ago and I was using my daughters. My son bought me this new one for Christmas and went everywhere to try a find one that still had windows 7...but no luck..so I had to get this windows 8 pain in the asssssssssssssss. I have been putzing on it since Dec 25th and have figured a few things out...thanks to Pugsy, I got Encore up and rolling. Whenever I came on here to see what was going on, it would either throw me out or take foreevvvvver to go to the next post. I finally figured if I went straight to "Bing" and type in cpaptalk, the version that came up on their site didn't drive me nuts. Its a big leaning curve...especially for old ladies...but I'm getting there..... slowly but surely..
Good luck to those of you with windows 8...keep plugging, you will get it....sooner or later.

I, too, have Encore Basic running on Win 8 using the "Pugsy files". Still working on the card reader. Driver would not install. Went to Mako site for their driver. Said I need to be an administrator. (I am.) Opened the hidden Admin acct. Same msg.
When I get the chance,I'll do a clean reboot and try again. (Anyone else unable to convince the machine that you ARE an Admin?)
I've found that Win 8 makes more sense once you realize they are trying to accommodate both PC and phone users. Two interfaces : Desktop for PCers, and the Start page full of apps for phone freaks.

I have seen that "administrator" message occasionally on my Windows 7 and yes, my user has administrator privileges.
What I have done is just click on okay...like "so what" and things installed and worked anyway.
Have no idea why the message pops up and no idea why just proceeding anyway will work. Seeing the message and telling it okay hasn't prevented me from doing what I was doing.
If you have tried that...and it didn't work...then I have no idea what is going on.

Success! A clean reboot and the DT3500 driver installed (It didn't under MY Admin acct, but did when I used the Win8 "hidden" Admin. Go figger)
I discovered two other minor annoyances. 1. There must be a difference in card format between Pro and Basic. It would not d/l my card data to Basic. I had to re-format using Basic and will begin collecting data tonight (hopefully). 2. The "Pugsly files" have the Help system topics, but there is no "content". You look up a topic and there is nothing there. No biggie. It's a pretty easy app to navigate without help.

I had one other person say the Help section content was AWOL and then another person said they were there. Go figure.
I haven't had to send my special files to very many people so it seems hit or miss. Maybe 5 people now. I expected the drivers not to copy over though. Same thing happens if we do the same trick with Viewer and move it to 64 bit computer.
If the Help section is really needed I can make some copies of what is needed...so anyone needing them just send me a note.

I just switched to a Windows 7 machine (from Vista) and my version of Encore Viewer version 1.0 will not install. Will one of the versions you have mentioned in this thread work for me, and if so, can I please get a link?
Thank you,
Tony

Check your private messages.
Viewer will work just fine on a Windows 7 computer but it is for 32 bit only. Likely yours is 64 bit. The problem is with the installer and not Windows version. There is a work around but you might as well use Basic. It's quite a bit smaller and you lose nothing in the way of reports.
EncoreBasic installs easily on both.

Thank you Pugsy. Basic installed perfectly and runs just fine.
Do you know if it will read my old data from the old computer? Would I just drag-and-drop the data files into the same data directory as Encore Basic?
Thanks again,
Tony
