I'm Northern California Kaiser in Santa Rosa. As Kaia's gram said, they are going to give you a PR machine from Crapria. You don't get any choice in it, since your DME is really Kaiser (unless, like Kaia's gram, you don't have DME coverage, in which case you're free to buy whatever you want, entirely out of pocket). Crapria (and I call Apria that for a reason!) is merely the supplier.

The good news is that (I think) they only give data capable machines, but whether you get CPAP or APAP depends 100% on what Kaiser decides, not your own preferences.

When I returned the titration machine I attached a note explaining that I would have to buy my own machine and please fax my Rx to cpap.com asap. I think the doc faxed my Rx the same day I returned the titration machine, maybe the next day. So I was able to order my machine immediately and had it within a couple of days. But I think the folks who are getting their machines from Kaiser wait up to several weeks in some cases, and then you have to sign up for a class to learn how to use the machine, right?

I'm going to order my own S9 Autoset and have cpap.com get the RX. I was already planning on ordering one and using Kaiser's machine as a travel/backup. I have a lot of FSA funds to use up. Best case scenario is I go without CPAP for 2 nights.
OK, then, go to cpap.com and print out their prescription form and take it with you to your appointment. You want to make it as convenient as possible for the doc to use that form and fax it in (their fax number is on the Rx form). I included the Rx form with my note when I turned in the titration machine. (I never saw a sleep doctor so I had to rely on writing a note and hoping it would get to the doctor -- fortunately it did.)

It's great that you're in a position to buy the machine you want plus a backup machine. You'll be set.

I got a call today from Kaiser's sleep dept asking me what type of mask I wanted, nasal or full. I told them nasal pillows, she seemed a little surprised that I already knew about them and they're giving me the Swift FX.

I also asked about the type of machine. She said CPAP machine, I said no, is it auto or basic one. She stated I will be getting an APAP Settings of 5-15. But the bad news is that it'll take weeks until I'll get a machine as they are backlogged with paperwork from the holidays. The sleep dept is a busy place, it took me 3 weeks to get an appt for my Watch-pat test and another 3 weeks for the home titration.

But I'm not waiting weeks and ordered a new S9 Autoset. It arrived today and its waiting for me at home

Yay, Cosmo! I think it was really smart of you to go ahead and buy the S9. It would be great if Kaiser would also give you an S9, so your accessories could be interchangeable. But I think they give Respironics -- did they say?

The Kaiser here in Sacramento is also very impacted and sloooow... even the patients identified as severe are made to wait weeks and weeks to get through the process and get their machines. And p.s., the holidays have nothing to do with it.

Let us know how it's going --- very cool that you're looking forward to getting started.

This is my new machine

I'm pretty sure the Kaiser machine is a Respironics. A person in my office has the machine and the during the titration, they said the machine we will get will be the same machine we are using for titration.

I'm the opposite of most newbies. I'm excited to be on the machine because I'll do anything to not be fatigued during the day. I even forked out my own money to speed up the process. I went through a full face mask and a nasal mask before I found the nasal pillow.

Cosmo,

If Kaiser in No. Cal is like Kaiser in So. Cal (where I am) then it will almost certainly be a PR machine (like was used in the titration). For me it only took 3 - 4 days to get my PR System One REMStar 550P Auto CPAP Machine after turning in the machine from the titration. I don't know if it was just plain luck or if my AHI & O2 numbers scared them and they rushed the machine . Either way, I am a Happy PAPer now !!!!

I hope your first night with the new S9 goes well!

John

Congrats on the new machine! I'm much like you, I'm happy to get started so I can get better. I'm tired of being so dang tired all the time. Last week, I was still waiting on hearing from the DME so I went ahead and bought a used S9 Autoset and mask from member mcdover; of course, the day they came is the day the DME called to schedule my appointment to get my equipment! So I got the 'official' equipment on Tuesday of this week (an Elite rather than Autoset, doc wouldn't prescribe the APAP) and now have duplicate/travel equipment already too.

I hope your new machine and mask work great for you...I'm still getting the mask adjusted to work right each night but this too shall pass.

If you don't mind sharing?

Who did you buy your S9 AutoSet from?

What is the internal software Version number in your new machine?
(Just wondering what Version is in the machines they are currently shipping out.)

Good job!!

I'm curious about that pillow in the picture. What make, model is it?

The contours & temperpedics are too firm for me. The pillows with "wings" tend to lift when you put your head down.

Does anyone know if the Software Version SX474-0905 is still the LATEST software version for the ResMed S9 AutoSet?

Or, do they already have an 0906 or higher?
