I just came back from getting a replacement and below is what I got;

S8 Elite 11 with humidifier
Swift fx including hose and new pillow in my size.
Couple bags of spare filters for S8
Hose insulator
Mask spray
Travel bag
8146 hrs usage

I didn't even haggle at $100.00 cash.


Question,

What is the best method to sterilize the humidifier, hose etc. I don't have to worry about the pillows since they're new?

Now I wish I could repair my old Elite to use as a back up.

I personally wouldn't use a hose that came from someone else, but a new hose here only costs around $12.

I would clean everything I intended to use (humidifier water chamber, etc) with a hospital grade disinfectant like Control III, following the instructions for temperature of water, etc.

Another option is vinegar, but I am not sure it is sufficient. When I bought a used machine, I replaced the water chamber with a new one from cpap.com. The water chamber for the 3i/4i is around $35.

Does your old humidifier or humidifier tank fit your new machine?

ResMed instructions for disinfection between patients are in the links in my sig line. The are all instructions for "clinical use only." I've taken used equipment, heated a pot of water on the stove to the temperatures listed and soaked the parts in water like listed in the clinical guide, sometimes even applying a little more heat and time than listed. I figured I'd apply enough heat and time to make me comfortable, and at worst, I'd have to throw the used part away instead of using it.

I think a hose is the only thing that I overheated, and even that still looked like it would work, it was just a little misshapen.

New hoses are pretty cheap.

Unfortunately, they don't list a disinfection process for the H3i humidifier. What model is your humidifier?

Since the humidifier tank needs to be able to hold water after cleaning, I'd be extra careful about it. I may not care that much if I ruin it, but I would care if I warped it or damaged the gasket and it started to leak into my CPAP machine. New tanks aren't that expensive.

And I can understand that, here in Canada they're a bit higher, but I thought it would make for a good back up.

Yes the old humifier is exactly the same between the Elite and the Elite 11 it's the H3i and I'm presently using the old one.

I'm going to use the ol, soak in hot water method.

By the way, sure is nice to be back on the machine. I feel better today.

I'd probably just throw the hose, mask and chamber in 75C water for well over 30 minutes and assume the bugs are pretty much dead. If any of it melts or gets damaged, throw it away. About the only risk I see is if the water tank starts leaking.

I'd probably do the higher temperature soak for the mask, just because it's a little more "intimate."

BTW, if you need to replace a tank before your replace the whole thing, you can buy a different cover and use the H4i dishwashable water tank that's much easier to clean.
