In a storm like this you'll have some damage from wind but the most is from the rain and flooding.

I am praying for all of you in harms way. Hope everyone comes thru this safely.

Annoyed my boss and told her I was leaving my client's home half an hour early when I saw the winds pick up. Woman has major psychiatric issues and little food in her house - I had no desire to be trapped with her for a day or two! I feel sorry for her, and worry about her, but not enough to stay.
My 12 year old lab is not happy about going out to pee in 48mph winds. Should be real fun when the storm gets here in earnest. You know it's bad when even WALLY WORLD closes!

Depends where you are.
While the coast got hit by the surge (tidal and otherwise), there was very little rain. ALL the damage up here is wind-related (falling trees taking out power lines, houses, my chrysanthemums, etc.)
The flooding looks good on TV, but that target audience is composed only of those people who have electricity and cable (I ain't even gonna mention "Dishes". They're all out in Indiana somewhere).

Trees, especially if they have fallen on houses or cars, seem to play well on TV as well. Inundation with sand seems to have gotten a lot of attention, too. Oh, and the fires in the Breezy Point neighborhood. Wherever it is, and whatever the cause, the losses are devastating all the same. Yet I wonder how much attention these places will get in 6 months to a year? Things might appear to be back to "normal" but many people will still be suffering.

At the moment, I've been thinking of all the pets (dogs & cats) that have gone through this as well. Tomorrow, I'm going to check on some places that are going the extra mile to provide food and other things for pets.

Starlette,
Indeed, do! My four dogs suffered terribly in the heat and humidity of Hurricane Isaac, back in August. And too often, shelters will not or cannot take pets.
