When I flew on Continental, they let me take it on with my carry on. I was just saying the same thing as you did but not with the same words but I think I made my point.

Under the ADA, US airlines have to allow you to carry your CPAP on board and they are not allowed to count it towards your carry on. So it's not a matter of an airline "letting" you do something. They are legally obligated to do so.

I use the S9, and it neatly fits in a standard size carry-on with the hose, power supply and my clothes, toothbrush etc. I keep the mask separate in my briefcase so it doesn't get squashed. A wheelie bag carry-on is more robust than the Resmed carry case as well so no need to mollycoddle it.
I prefer to have two clearly separate bags...but cause what if you fly on a small commuter jet or even smaller turbo prop. I have been told NO room for carry on....it must go in the luggage. So that would mean my CPAP and laptop and all my belongings would go in with luggage. That is a NO GO! So I prefer two separate bags. I can pull my laptop out of my wheelie carryon bag and hand carry with my CPAP. The other carry bag can go with luggage.

I have had this happen a lot when flying around Texas...most of the planes are small turbo props that service the smaller airports. Granted the attendants and staff are very accommodating. The flight attendent was the one that recommended that I remove my laptop and hand carry...let the other bag go into luggage. Now all of this was done at plane side...so I KNEW everything was flying with me...and when I got to my designation I saw it come off and given to me at plane side.

I like the Resmed bag because it looks like laptop or electronic bag and is designed to be placed on the handle of wheeled luggage or it has a shoulder strap.

Since the zipper runs along the bottom, opposite the carrying straps,
and the zipper is not super heavy-duty, I would advise you to not overload the case,
and use all the straps as indicated to prevent stress on the zipper.
Everything in the case needs to be cpap-related for it to qualify as a free carry-on.
Enjoy.
