If I decide to try a barrel cozy (in a non-pretty, manly color, of course) for comfort and anti-condensation, does everybody here promise NOT to tell Avi?!!!

He says he has me on his Foe list but we all know he reads my stuff...
But I promise not to tell.

My lips are sealed. (No pun intended ).

The barrel cozy from Padacheeks isn't all that snug at the opening where the cones go through. Not like you are thinking and with time the opening sort of becomes larger. If it was too tight of an opening it would inhibit the air flow.
So I don't think it would be nearly as supportive as the O rings would be.
I have a barrel cozy...and I love it..but I don't think it would work in place of the O rings for that type of support.
I love it because it feels so great against my skin and it does a great job of insulating the nasal pillow so that I don't get rain out from the moisture in my own exhaled breath which was the original intention for the design...the feeling good part is just a bonus.
Thank you Pugsy!

I just got off the phone with Karen from Pad-a-cheek (what a wonderful lady!) and she said much the same thing about the barrel cozy. However....she DOES have these o-rings and will be sending me some along with a liner for another of my masks. Since Lowe's and Home Depot don't seem to carry this size I was thrilled to hear she already has them available for purchase, she just needs to add them to her website.

She may want to think about integrating the two products into one, eventually--actually sewing the O-rings into the cozy. Just saying. And she has my permission to leave my name off the patent. All I ask is for the first one free in a manly color. And maybe one more for me to send to Avi.

You are already in trouble ....you use pillows, you are a mensch and your bff is a doctor that Avi wants you to contact to see if he can validate his theory.

edit....Ooppps.. Avi deleted his message where he called you a mensch and asked you to contact your bff Dr Rapaport
Question..has he had enough..trying to convince everyone that he is right???????????? always????????????????

I do have the utmost respect for Dr. R., although I think -SWS is a bigger fan of his than I am.

As for the son of Adam named Avi, I don't think he sets out to cause troubles. He just does. He reminds me of my old Uncle Charlie who used to sit in his recliner in the corner and yell grumpy stuff at us kids when he was jealous of the fun we were having. I knew deep down he actually loved us and was just trying to be helpful and a part of what was going on.

Comment,

I 'll contact Dr David Rapoport on my own via a sleep doc who is a friend of Dr R. Who knows, as a past Biomedical Engineer (M.Sc.), Dr R. plus Dr Jonathan.. plus me , might coordinate a study to find out if nasal pillows masks cause elevated Flow Limitation, UAR, and RERA? Think about it: a deviated septum, faulty nose turbinates, large uvula, Provent, etc., all cause it. So why not nasal pillows dangling off your nostrils?

As for myself I need to find out how to reduce Flow Limitation, b/c it causes hi arousals during sleep which lead to daytime residual excessive sleepiness.

Pugsy amazes me in how up-to-date-mainstream-science she remains while coming up with useful ideas for people to make their therapy successful and to understand the problems of sleep-breathing. I admire that.

It is fine to think outside the box, Avi. But in a medical-therapy-centered forum, I think it important that we all try our best not to be misleading to the casual reader. It's all in how we each state what we believe, I believe.
This is a great thread, and I have learned alot and lots to look into. Thanks to all.

Pugey is the best and I am so grateful to her. She is a wonder. On this subject of FL, I am just trying to learn. And I will be getting the Gosy and O rings and give them a try, thanks again.

So are many in the industry, including the good Dr. Rapoport himself. It is a fascinating field of study, it looks like (from a distance, anyway).

I don't know how deep you want to go, but this shows an example of the kinds of things being studied these days when it comes hypopneas with inspiratory flow limitation and hypopneas without. Personally, I can't really even tell the difference looking right at them most of the time. Have I said lately that I HATE squiggly lines?:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/article ... figure/F1/

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3311415/

On a side note, and as much as I hate to say it, IF nasal pillows increase nasal resistance in a particular patient, the idea that, for that one patient, the pillows COULD adversely affect therapy may not be all that far-fetched of a premise, in my opinion as a non-medical, non-scientific, non-entity who isn't even in the industry. Unfortunately, there would probably be no money available from anyone to actually study any widespread application of the premise Avi has put forth, though, even if it could be proved somehow.

Same with most of my pet theories.

In fact, the big players would probably pay NOT to have it studied.

How's that for me putting forth a bigger conspiracy theory than anyone else in this thread?

I don't think it is a conspiracy theory but rather a fact. And thanks for the links: I will read them.
