This is the major reason I wish I had not gotten the S9. I would go with the system one.

I have the Resmed 10 and, I would not say I have heard a whistling sound, but I have been making adjustments in order to obtain the benefits of the machine. For example, the initial ramp pressure was too high (immediately upon putting the mask on experienced too much air/pressure). Problem corrected because the connector which goes into the nose area of the mask (F10 Resmed mask) was not fully snapped in place. The important consideration make sure all your connections are securely in place. Also with the full mask it is critical that the mask is firmly in place.
If the mask is too loose and a good seal is not created, air sounds are prevalent (like air coming out of a balloon) and the system does not work. The system is great when it is working like it should, otherwise it is frustrating. I have not used the respironics but I am told apple to apple, the machines are the best.
