I will continue to keep your son-in-law and your whole family in my prayers. Hang in there, God is in charge, even though it doesn't seem like it and he does answer prayers.

Thank you everyone for your loving thoughts and prayers, please keep them coming. I know God is listening to you all. Today for the first time in a week, my daughter was able to care for her son (16 months old), for four hours without her teenage daughter or myself being with her, she is having a very difficult time being with him,as the dark thoughts about what his dad will not be able to do with his son take over. I am forever grateful for your support.

Thank you all for your prayers, please keep them coming, I know they are being answered, because my son-in-law is still fighting in the ICU, unfortunately the breathing tube and cath have had to be re-inserted, but on a more positive note, the brain swelling has stopped for now. They are able to move him a bit to his side and have a cardiac team along with OT coming to sit him up for a short while each day. They are planning the facial reconstruction for Monday. The docs, are concerned about how much sinus re-building they may have to do as the drainage from his nose does not seem to be coming from the brain fluid any longer, but they will really not know until they can get in there. They estimate a long table time due the extensive damage a hollow point bullet does, they told my daughter it's like being shot with buckshot from a shot gun. Still is seems so surreal to us that we are waking up to this everyday, the only upside, I get way more time with my grandbaby then I thought I would this summer.
I am grateful for all your blessings,
Ellen

You are still in my thoughts and prayers -- and at times when I feel overwhelmed by daily concerns I stop and think of those that have greater concerns than my small ones.
I truly hope that your son-in-law gains strength daily and the doctors are able to perform miracles through God's wisdom.
Please keep us posted on his progress as many care about you and your family.

Praying for your incredibly brave son-in-law and for the Lord's guidance in his treatment and for your daughter, that she would be given extra strength and comfort. Same for you, too.

I am so grateful for all of your prayers, and for each of you as friends.
We have gotten some very positive little miracles these past 2 days. Since my son-in-law still needs the breathing tube, cath. feeding tube and a few other hook ups, they are beginning to do some OT and PT services to help him regain and retain whatever physical and mental capabilities he may still have. In order to do this, they have had to intermittently reduce the pain medication drastically He is told several times each day what has happened to him and he seems to be retaining this. My daughter did tell him yesterday about the removal of his left eye, and that if the orbital socket can be reconstructed the Lion's Club will try to get him an artificial eye. He seemed to take the news relatively well, but we're still not sure how much he is actually processing. The OT folks have told my daughter that on the second day they worked with him, he followed their simple instructions to begin caring for some of his basic needs, ie. face washing, arms etc. The PT and cardiac folks have gotten him up on his feet, and say that he responds to some simple instructions ie. pick up your left foot etc.
After a recent CT scan, the docs. have decided to go back in and remove more of the bullet fragments that during the original surgery they decided to leave in. I am guessing since his brain is no longer swelling that they must come out.
We are blessed every day with Gods grace, and for all of you that have prayed for us and kept us in your thoughts.
God Bless you all,
Ellen

he should be recognized as a hero. The crime rate in this administrations "change" is damn scary.
I hope they treat him and he finds his health again.
As an aside, get your concealed carry permit, learn how to use a firearm, carry it, and USE it when your life is threatened.
Do not hesitate to pull the trigger if someone has put your life in danger. That is a decision they made, and if we
are unarmed we are helpless.

Ellen: I could feel my heart in my chest as I read your last post. Thank God for miracles large and small. You and your family have been, and will continue to be, in my thoughts.
