No, not "only". One could just as easily assume that per study costs of operating a sleep lab vary widely.
Or, judging from the posts in the link you referenced, one could easily assume that cpaptalk members have a poor grasp of the total compensation received by a sleep lab. You can see in that thread that members are confused about billed amounts, reimbursed amounts, deductibles, contract amounts and a lot more. And no wonder, there is little transparency in costs.
