A Newbie - Anyone also have TMJ?

I was diagnosed with TMJ probably 20 years ago. For most of that time I used an appliance that looks like a retainer but with extra plastic where my teeth would grind. A few years ago my dentist switched me to a much smaller appliance that actually works better for me. I have been on cpap since August and have noticed no problem with the TMJ appliance. Here is a picture of the new appliance:
