We bought ours three months ago and sleeping on it has reduced my arthritis and body aches by about 90%. I love that damn mattress so much that I told my husband if we ever get a divorce (we won't), I will fight for custody of it!

I'm going to have to second that Bed-in-a-box vote. We've had one for about 1 1/2 years now, and it's working out great. The price is significantly lower than Tempur-Pedic, but it's not some cheap-o Asian knock-off. It's US made, doesn't have a horrible stink that lingers on, and supposedly doesn't sleep as hot as some memory foam beds. Keep in mind that this is our first memory foam mattress, so I can't fairly compare it with the Tempur-Pedic, but we like it a lot.

The wife and I just invested in a Serta iComfort mattress (and box springs). We went with a very firm mattress. We both have lower back pains and our current mattress is over 12 years old at this point. It's seen much better days. We found that it was cooler than the Tempurpedic mattresses. Hopefully we'll continue to enjoy it. But the guarantee was quite good and the price was much better than Tempurpedic.

NOTE to those whose tempur mattresses are too hot. Are you using the "recommended" waterproof Goretex mattress cover? I've slept with it and without it and it is MUCH hotter with the cover.

My wife and I have had a sleep number bed for about 5 years now and it's fantastic! She sets hers at 45 and my side is perfect at 55. The only gotcha is when there is a power failure we have to be sure to check our settings as they sometimes change following loss of power. But it is a great bed!

The waterproof mattress cover is sold along with a mattress, as not doing so may void the warranty.
In many cases, the warranty is virtually worthless, anyway. (even sweat stains void it)

Yes - and the bed is a lot more squishy when you don't use it.

+1 on the Sleep Number bed. We love ours, you can set it for what ever you need for that time. Hard , soft or medium. When my back bothers me I run my bed up to when it's firm, other wise my number is 55.

My mother hates air beds; the one she had in the hospital continually changed
from too soft to too hard to too soft, ad infinitum. Apparently the wretched thing had a leak.
She got very little sleep on it, and cursed it as the pox it was.

Another Tempurpedic cheerleader-not too hot, not too cold-- not too low, high enough for fibro, rheumatoid body dismounts on one king sized side (while small white Tibetan puppy scampers up his little staircase on the other side). The staircase was a "bonus" when I bought the mattress. What a spoiled, rescue doggie; what a spoiled wife/ mommy.

A bit old fashioned here, good basic mattress but did go for pillow top. We have had it a few years, we are happy, better than what we had before. No reason or plans to change.

I was surprised how comfortable the horsepital's sleep clinic bed was, but did not seem to help me sleep for the study. I sleep as good in my La-z-boy or regular horsepital bed with the knee and head raised. (been hospitalized twice this year)

When I got out in Jan after breaking 5 ribs and acute kidney issue I could NOT sleep laying down on back or side for a couple months, too painful. It felt good to be able to sleep (oxymoronic term) in my real pillow top bed.

One thing I've learned is that there is quite a bit of difference between the various memory foam mattresses. I've spent a few practice sessions on the Serenity memory foam mattress at the Original Mattress Factory, and found it to be quite comfortable.

Personally, since starting on CPAP in August, I find I toss and turn less, and therefore my back is more stiff in the morning.

OK, someone will call me an old hippy, but I love my waterbed. It is not your normal 60's-70's bed. It is a Strobel 1900 (waveless with back support), encased in a Sensa Sack with comfy pillow top, and is a dream to sleep on. This set up is around $2,000 and must be shopped & bought via internet, since standard 'waterbed stores' are extinct. I am lucky, the company that makes the mattress is here in town (Strobel Inc.). If you really want comfort, and don't mind a little inconvenience (such as draining to move it across the room), I would highly recommend my configuration of waterbed, since I've been sleeping on a waterbed for 30 yrs.

I bought a king size sleep number bed a couple years ago off craigslist for $100! Complete with base and in perfect condition. Only 2.5yrs old; called the company and they transferred the remaining warranty to me.
Its much better than the 20+yr old mattress/box spring we had before. Probably not as comfortable as a tempurpedic, but for the price point I'm not complaining!
