I also had a problem with ResMed. I had 2 units that would lockup, and the only way to get to work was unplug them for 10 minutes.

I had my S8, which was purchased from cpap.com, replaced under warranty.
cpap.com tested it, found it defective, and handled the replacement process with ResMed at no cost to me.
I had no direct contact with ResMed.

FWIW. Have you tried another/new climateline? I have just skim read this thread so forgive me if this has already been covered or if I am on the wrong track.
In the mask end of the Climateline of my recently new S9 Autoset, is a little protruding orange tag, I wonder if this is a temperature sensor - because if it is and if it was to become faulty (wires in tube frayed over time and lots of use) then it may not be sending correct readings back to the main unit or humidifier. Although this may not explain why the big variation from setting 1 and 2. Do you know someone close by who has an S9 and you could try their hose on your machine? Could be worth trying.

I'm glad I bought my Autoset from our sponsors.
I did not need to use the warranty, and now it is over 2 years old and going strong after 6000 hours.
I have selected a Medicare part B coverage that gives me many suppliers--just in case I need one.
I wish cpap.com was one of them.
