The Escape (and all the others that have leak compensation ability) are able to compensate for some leaks...up to a point...but none of them will compensate well enough if the leaks are major (like coming out your mouth instead of going down the airway). Even ResMed says that leaks above 24 L/min can impact therapy and affect the machine's ability to sense events. There is a reason why we have the red line on our reports...we don't want to go there because that is no man's land.
Have you seen a report?
Here is a partial leak and event graph that I had the other night. This is a ResScan report..that red line is theirs.. I was pushing things awful close to that red line a good bit of the night and exceeding it at some other times. I felt horrible the next day. This happens to be from an experiment that I am doing with some headgear accessories. So this is unusual for me.

burc2006 wrote:And 2nd question, when I open my mouth, there is disturbing air flow, so if there is leakage from mouth in your sleep, didnt you wake up??
We don't always wake up with large leaks. Either from mouth breathing or mask movement.
I have had some nights where I slept right through and I go and look at the reports and I was leaking all over the place.

Wearing this "stuff" on our face and sleeping with a machine blowing air up our noses is certainly less than ideal. I have always figured that if I am going to have to do it.........I want to make darn sure that I am doing it the best I can so that I can have the best chance at having a favorable outcome.

I do understand your predicament though. If you cannot manage the Elite..well then you can't and you do the best you can with what you are given. That is the way life is. We are only pointing out the possible situations where having data available is an obvious advantage. You have found your way to a forum where most of us feel very strongly that having data available is critical. We like being in charge. If you do well..start feeling great...it probably won't be all that important. We just hate to see people come here...using a non data machine and complaining about not feeling well and we have nothing to realistically offer as ideas because we have no clue what might be going on causing lack of improvement. The standard..."give it time" works well if time is all that is needed but doesn't mean anything if your AHI is high, your leaks are through the roof or whatever. We are just wanting to give you the advice that gives you the best chance of success.

Please dont misunderstand me, I am trying to understand most of the things by asking since I am newbie to this CPAP thing. And I appreciate too much for all of your support to me.
I will definetely seek for better option, hopefully I can afford the extra cost
Thanks..

We wish you the best. Hope you can get the full data machine but if you can't...we will still be here and we will still try to help in anyway we can.

Don't worry we understand. There is a lot to learn. Before I got my cpap I was on this site and it confused me totally because I was so sleep deprived. I got a full data machine by sheer luck and about a week after I started using it things suddenly started to make sense.

It can take your mind a month to decide that it can sleep deeply safely with this strange thing on your face. It has spent years keeping you alive, waking you up when you stop breathing so appreciate what it has done for you and understand that it will take time to trust this new way of sleeping.

Today I exchanged S9 Escape with S9 Elite.. From now, I can track my sleep condition
also the lady in the product sales office checked my Mirage FX mask and found out there is excessive leak when I turn to left or right in the bed and she recommended me Mirage Activa LT mask. This mask is bigger and harder but I think better sealing. I will check tonight
Also I have Mirage FX with me, some nights I will try and check the leaks from data..
Good now, hopefully I will have some improvements. (Actually I am feeling better today from morning until now, no sleepy feeling-hopefully tomorrow will be same)

Tonight was 1st trial with S9 Elite and Mirage Activa LT mask. Results on Elite is AHI:0.9 and mask condition good. I checked the graphs there is no major leak
But today I dont feel so energetic, yesterday was better with Mirage FX, tonight the mask is not so much comfortable since I am using 1st time, maybe I could not sleep well. (However I only remember 1 or 2 time being awake)
I am being depressed as days passing and not so much improvement on my tiredness (except yesterday)

I am thinking if I have periodic leg movements waking me up, in my 1st test PLM was 5.5, and in CPAP titration it was 11.1
Doctor is also suspicious, he said please follow within next weeks, but I dont feel any disturbance in my sleep or before sleep such as rash, hotness, wanting to move or walk etc..
Hmmm..

Improvements started on the morning of my sleep study with the CPAP machine. I could feel the difference. I woke up feeling like a million dollars. Believe me when I say that I have NEVER felt so alive.

Sleep study without CPAP:
1. Tech work me up around 630am.
2. Went home took a shower.
3. Slept until noon.

Sleep study with CPAP:
1. Tech work me up around 630am.
2. Went home took a shower.
3. Could not go back to sleep. I was so alert that I almost went into work

So you will get used to your new lifestyle, you just have to believe that it will work for you. I hope this helped.

I have been on the CPAP almost a month and it is getting easier, but, because I had no knowledge about it, I got the S9 Escape. I eventually told my doctor to write a script for the S9 Autoset and then the DME came back and said the doctor has to write a range... so told my doctor to do that. Am still waiting for the new machine and it's driving me crazy not knowing how I am doing... what kind of leaks, AHI's, I have no clue! Can't wait for that new machine!
So you got yours replaced very quickly!
