SWIFT PROBLEM

Post by JudyAnn » Tue Sep 28, 2004 7:52 am

HI,

AS YOU KNOW, I HAVE THE SWIFT PILLOW SYSTEM AND MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT THE AIR FLOW IS NOISY. I E-MAILED RESMED AND WAS NOT EXPECTING A RESPONSE BACK BUT THEY RESPONDED AND I HAVE POSTED IT BELOW. I HOPE THEIR ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT FIGURES IT OUT. My message to them is at the bottom of their response................JUDY

Judy,

Thank You for taking the time to email in. There is always room for improvement. I do know that with the pillows, being there is no mask space the exhaled air needs to be exhausted quickly, hence, the 6 ports, hence more noise. I will forward on your email to our engineer team. Remember with even a slight modification, improvement, if any changes come about from our initial release, it will take time.

Sincerely,

I own two of your masks:
Mirage Activa
Swift
I love the idea of the Swift, its light and has hardly any equipment in my face but the "air vent holes" are very noisy. I do not hear the air vent holes on the Mirage Activa at all. That is the one thing that is wrong with the Swift nasal pillows. Can this be improved??????

Thanks!

Judy,

Thanks for posting the email. It's cool to see a big company answering emails.

I've been considering a swift. I actually ordered one but was told it's been backordered by the manufacturer. I guess that's a good thing because now I can ask - is it worth switching or are the air holes too annoying?

Also, do you know a place that doesn't have these on back order? I think i read that you were one of five who got one, but maybe that was someone elses post?

When I first heard about the Swift about a month before they even came out, I told my rep to put me on the top of his list. Well, I found out from my respiratory therapist that my rep had them already (last week) and so I called him and questioned where it was. He said that he could only get 5 now but that the rest of his order was on back order. I reminded him that I was supposed to be first on his list and he brought me one along with the machine that they switched me to. I think he had other older (I'm new to this) customers that he wanted to give them to first but I kinda was insistent. He said that ResMed does this a lot, puts out something new and then doesn't make enough. The same thinig happened to the Mirage Activa mask he said.

I wore it last night as I was really sleepy so I did fall asleep with the air noise but I do hope that they can improve on that. I e-mailed them again and here is her reply.......JUDY

Judy,

The big difference is going to be the pressure. The greater the pressure the more exhaled air is pushed out. So a pressure of 7 is very quiet as compared to a pressure of 12. There are many pillow users out there that are quite comfortable with the noise level. I believe one gets used to this type of direct exhalation. I will pass on your thoughts to the mask team.

Susie

Thank you for responding.

What is strange to me is that a few people on some of the sleep apnea boards compained about the same thing as I did but one girl said her Swift is totally quiet - no noise at all. Is ResMed aware of the air flow noise or am I the first person to inquire or complain?

Thank you,
