I just wanted to bump this thread for people who may be looking, since people were so happy to help me, and I know there have to be other people out there who could use the help.

I would like a backup machine if anyone wants to donate one. The machine I have is new will be making payments for awhile on it so I can't buy a backup right now but would love to have one just in case.

No no = I do have Moderate OSA. That is for sure. I went in for a volunteer study at a university. They said my breathing was stopping or getting shallow something like 25 times an hour.

The key right now is tweaking the pressure. I am working on that the only way I can, which is trial and error. I'm a pretty perceptive guy so I think I may be able to make it work. I thought things were going well but now I had to make some more changes because apparently they were not going as well as I had thought.

If anyone would be willing to donate a BiPAP, I would be interested. I have difficulties with breathing while lying down due to neuromuscular disease.

Ronnie have you spoken with a local sleep doc about free gear? Mine was ready to give me any mask and a pretty basic machine for free if I needed it.

Are you in the US? If so, you should be able to qualify for public assistance or some sort. Your condition may need a more sophisticated machine then a bipap. Thinking something like an AVAPS to maintain tidal volume.

how do you know what pressure to et that cpap at? If you have no idea, try 10. I heard most people can get by with 10.

OP to this thread did obtain a machine. It was a basic no data machine...but a machine.

I have a cpap that I am no longer using if you still need one.

This is a horrible thing to have to point out, but personal experience, albeit SO different a situation. What's the old saying, no good deed goes unpunished?

Mailing stuff to overseas destinations has some pitfalls. No matter whether the stuff is old or new, there may be tariffs on sending it, via mail or commercial carrier. Don't just figure on "don't ask, don't tell". Check it out, declare proper value, and pay the tariffs - or else:

Somewhere along the line, your package will be opened. It will be done by a company that makes great bucks from doing just that. They will send your recipient an empty box - well, almost. It will contain a nice polite letter that says, in effect: "I'm sorry, your friend forgot to declare the item (that used to be in this box), it's value, and to pay the appropriate tariffs. Please send us XXX dollars and we will see that your package continues to your destination. Your fiend also has the option of sending YYY dollars and we will return the item to them."

So what's the big deal?

Well, XXX or YYY are made up of 3 parts. One is shipping. Yup, you get to pay the postage all over again. Part 2 is the tariff you innocently overlooked. Part 3? The service charge. They don't provide such a wonderful public service for free - what did you expect?

How bad will it be? I can't say, naturally. I don't know what you sent or how much it's worth! But I can tell you about our personal experience.

My wife Pillow has a number of friends around the world, many who started out as fans from her professional bodybuilding days. One, an artist living in France, sends her something at Christmas each year. Usually flowers or something where the florist network actually buys from a local company. No prob, but a couple years back he sent a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne. Checking, I found that it was available at the local Costco store for about a hundred bucks a bottle.

The charges came out to around $55. We called the number and asked a few questions. Continued postage was about $12.50. Are you ready for this? The tariff was $2.50. They wanted *** $40.00 *** for the service charge. I told you they make great bucks for providing the "service"! The only difference between XXX and YYY was the tariff.

Of course, you and the recipient have the third option of just saying "never mind" in which case the company will just sell the item. Or <burp>. In our case, Jacques paid them $55 and we received our Christmas champagne. In time for Valentines Day! Actually, he probably could have come out ahead by buying & sending a new bottle, given the price tag in France - but he didn't want THEM to have the option of using it for their office New Year's Eve party. I hope they were disappointed! It was very tasty.

I have a Cpap machine and supplies to donate. I anyone is interested in the San Antonio area we will be happy to give it to you. My husband uses another kind and what we have won't work.
