As a "used" machine the Elite wouldn't have much value. So, I thought about keeping it as a backup. However, to have TWO relatively new machines is a little much for the budget. I have been using the Elite for a month and it works fine. Since the AutoSet is new, it would have greater potential to sell.
The Autoset became a used machine the minute you took it out of the packing! Even with zero hours! Just like a car. As soon as you drive it off the lot, even if the odometer is 0.1 miles, its a used car. Sensible, no. Marketing reality, yes. If you have the option, return it for credit. You'll do a lot better that way, money wise.
I must have missed the part where he actually said he took it out of the packaging.
The analogy is not a good one. The Autoset is new because it has zero hours, it has not been used for its intended purpose. The car on the other hand has > 0 on the odometer and has been used for its intended purpose.

THERAPY>MONEY --unless of course you're really in a bind.
Without health, we can't spend our money.--at least not enjoyably.

For all you doubting Thomases, 164*6(18-12)/120(168.547/25.756)-17.853*8/689.45. See? Four times as long. Or stated another way, 2 machines operating half time (2 / .5) = 4. 220, 221, whatever it takes.

Let's do it a way everyone can understand.....If the average life of a CPAP machine is 5 years and you have 2 machines...you should have 10 years of usable CPAP life. (2 x 5 = 10)
If you use 1 machine for 2.5 years and the other for 2.5 years you have used 5 years of the usable life and you have another 5 years left.....My math says that if you have 2 machines you have 2 times the usable CPAP life.

Assuming a machine will operate satisfactorily for 15,000 operating hours, usage 8 hours per night, it will last 1875 nights or about 5 years.
Now to your example using the machine "half time", it would still last 1875 nights but since you only use it half time it will last 10 years.
The second machine in the example will also last 10 years.
At the end of 10 years both machines will need replacing. So they last 2 times as long as one machine not 4 times as long.
There is also the likelihood that more things, like seals drying out, could happen over 10 years as compared to 5 years. So the machines would likely last less than 2 times as long.
Have you always been that bad at logic and math or has sleep apnea eaten away at your abilities?

But you forgot to factor in absence of friction loss during the down cycles.
