Plenty of people still die from asthma. You should be taking a preventative spray always. Not till you feel better.

I take 10mg of Singulair every night before sleep for IIRC since ~1998, or at least since sometime between 1998 and 2001. Gee, just did the calculation, at $45 to $65 a month; I've spent somewhere between $7000 to $10,000 on singulair.

Albuterol doesn't prevent asthma. It's a fast acting muscle relaxant that shill reduce the immediate tightening of your airways. Long-acting steroid inhalers containing salumetrol are the preventative inhalers to take long term--eg Advair.
Antibiotics will not necessarily work with asthmatic bronchitis (unless either the trigger was a bacterial infection or you develop a secondary bacterial infection). Some doctors are so used to throwing antibiotics at patients when they should be treating your asthma.
As for GERD, the very best and most effective treatment ever is to reduce the carbs in your diet. This is the only thing that has EVER worked for me.

xopenex may have fewer side effects like with raising heart rate. I've been taking dulera which seems more effective than symbicort. I also try to avoid spicy foods, soda, really fatty foods

Whew, its been over a month now. Doctor prescribed sinus rinse and a nasal steroid twice a day, 10mg/day of Singulair, Albuterol inhaler as needed, and I have added guaifenesin to that. To sleep, I have found the only thing that will let me mask (supress that tickle) up is 50 mg of benedryl and one pseudophedrine. That and I have to sleep sitting up. DaMn! I am about fed up with this coughing. My neck muscles are sore.
