That's actually related to how I first tried drip coffee. My parents made it with one packet in one mug of water, I complained about how weak it was, and so my father grabbed the near-empty coffee pot and dumped the last of the coffee into the brown water. I since found that I much prefer espresso over drip.

If you feel that strongly over hot chocolate ingredients, instead of boiling a kettle of water, you can put a pot of milk on the stove, and bring it to just the barest of simmer, and use it in place of the boiled water. Alternatively, you can prepare the milk as you would for a latte, and steam it with the slurry.

Now an opportunity for my first post.

Favourite hot chocolate instructions

1 litre milk
1 vanilla bean, split
1 stick of cinnamon
2 bars (100 g each) 65% Cacao Dark Chocolate


Recipe
Chop the chocolate.
Heat the milk with the cinnamon and vanilla bean in a saucepan over medium heat until it reaches boiling point, but do not let the milk boil. Best to use candy thermometer to prevent boiling.
Add the chopped chocolate and whisk until smooth.
Remove from heat and let rest for 25 minutes to release the spices’ aroma.
Strain the liquid and reheat before serving.

If you like spicy add one ingredient during first step:
3 tsp whole black peppercorns
or
one split red chile pepper, seeds removed

Serve in 5-ounce cups. Refill as desired.

Larger cups are bounderish.

I go off to a chocolatier's for a hot chocolate, braving streetcar diversions, a Christmas Market, and the chocolatier's other wares, and this is what's left here when I get back?! Please say that you guys at the very least like the chocolate mixed with the proper milk, full-fat. The skimmed versions just taste weird.

Anyway, the hot chocolate I had was much better than Hot Chocolate from a Canister. While there was the option of having it mixed with water and the option of having it mixed with milk, I took their third option: undiluted. (okay, so they also had a fourth: mixed with espresso and whipped cream). The resultant bag of other wares wasn't as bad as it could have been, it was still less than $100. Still, I hate the necessary process to get a good hot chocolate here, too much good other stuff.

I thought it was a vegan marshmallow in a vegan hot chocolate. Yes, you can get vegan marshmallows if you know where to look, and the ones I saw were cubic. When I tried one, it wasn't bad. As for vegan hot chocolate, it depends upon what approach they take to the veganning. Something closer to a rich drinking chocolate can be nice; something that attempts to merely sub out the dairy with soy tends to taste horrible.
