One more avenue to explore: physical therapy. I had three really bad rounds of vertigo four years ago, followed by months of dizziness. That improved to some extent over time, but not enough for me to be out and about in a normal way. My doctor referred me to a physical therapist who specialized in balance issues, and the exercises she had me do were highly effective. I went into the whole thing a skeptic and came out a believer. Apparently the PT work can help retrain your brain so it plays its proper role again within your balance systems.
