Re: At home sleep study, apap, showing centrals and panicked!

I thought I would give a little update to those who were trying to help me thru my issues. And also mention a couple things that might help others.
Once it was mentioned that fragmented sleep can look like or cause open airway apneas, I started looking into that. I never for a minute thought I suffered from insomnia but that's because I didn't really understand what all insomnia can entail. When I looked into it, I realized that I've been an insomniac for my entire adult life, and then some. So I stumbled onto sleep restriction therapy, and started that about a week ago. It has been BRUTAL, but after day 4 and 5 I looked at my data and low and behold, my AHI went from around 18 every night before SRT to less than 4. And my data showed VERY few CA's. So I feel fairly confident that I was not actually having all those CA's but my fragmented, light sleep was causing the problem. Pretty exciting.
Another thing, is that even with my APAP range fairly tight, I felt that the changes in pressure thru the night were disturbing my sleep as well. And maybe as I get this insomnia thing licked, and my sleep is deeper, that wouldn't bother me, but for now, it does. So I decided (last night was the first night) to switch to straight CPAP for a while, figuring that my body will be more comfortable, and more easily get used to one set pressure. I have to admit, last night with straight CPAP went really pretty well. So now I'll leave it set for a week, and then adjust my pressure accordingly.
Panic is starting to turn into optimism.
So thanks to all those who helped. Your comments and questions helped me to relax, and try to find out what was causing my issues.
