For me there was only a very minor instability issue (some back strap movement) with the FX but completely offset by the "less on my face thing". This is why we have so many choices out there. One mask doesn't always suit everyone and each person has to find their own.
I really wanted the FX to be *my* mask. I liked how minimal it was. The LT is a bit more difficult to read with, as the pillow/hose module sticks out further. But I just coudln't get the FX to stay in place.
Pugsy wrote:Glad you found one that works for you. Are you keeping the Swift FX as backup for trial later? Did you order some Padacheek comfort items that won't work on the LT? If you did and don't want to keep them, let me know as there might be something I could use and I will buy them from you.
I am keeping the FX as a backup. It's possible that, after I get more used to this whole CPAP thing, I might be able to use it without so many leaks. I did order the Padacheeck things, but haven't gotten them yet. I probably will keep them, since I'm keeping my FX as a backup. But thanks for the offer! I'd hate to see them go to waste.

I'll be packing everything up for a trip soon. That will be my next adventure with CPAP.

Okay. I was going to suggest a revisit to the FX down the road. With experience it may b easier to manage later.

Didn't want you to have the Padacheek items wasted so that was why my offer. If you were never going to use them just hated to see you waste the money. This CPAP stuff adds up pretty quick. I am going to order another barrel cozy and probably a short hose cozy as well unless end up making my own. I am just lazy and sometimes my time is worth more to me than what I might pay someone else. Four years of Home Ec in high school and I still hate to sew or make anything except a good meal.

You may be with the FX like I was with the Opus 360. I was early into my therapy and I tried the Opus and I just couldn't get the headgear to stay put. Leaks all over the place. So I gave it away. Now I am wondering if I might manage it better but I don't have it to try. Doesn't really matter. I am quite satisfied with the Swift FX. Two nights ago I had a 0.0 leak... with me and my software and how it reports and my tossing and turning....that 0.0 was a HUGE milestone. Perfect straight line, no blips at all and the report said 0.0. I never ever had that before. Nearly broke my good arm (left wrist still not 100% from fall and fracture) patting myself on the back.

I never understood this... why read with your CPAP on? When I go to bed, I go to sleep, not to read. No trying to beat you up, I just don't fully understand this. I understand reading to try and wind ones mind down, but unless you are reading something so dull and expect to fall asleep while reading, I just don't understand why people don't read AND then go to bed.

Sorry, I'm a dumb Hungarian...

Relaxation. A way to unwind and being masked up while reading lets a person simply reach over and turn off the light and not have to go through the chore of masking up.

For some people reading is their sleeping pill.

I have always read first thing when I go to bed. Sometimes only for a couple of minutes, most times around a half an hour, and every now and then a particularly good book may keep me up a "wee bit longer" I read Lonesome Dove in 3 days . I read everything from novels to user manuals and school textbooks. It relaxes me to do this and helps to get other things off my mind--which as a worrier would surely keep me awake longer than reading. If I read in another place and then go to bed, I may get sidetracked or something else may make me lose the calming effect that reading provides. So I would rather read for a while then turn over and flip off the light and drift off to sleep. It generally works quite well.

Ditto to what the others said - it helps me relax and wind down for sleeping. Plus, the dog goes to bed early and makes sad eyes at us until we come into bed. Since I'm not ready to go to sleep at 8pm, reading it is.

why is it we don't have this feeling of being tired and needing sleep, painful tiredness on cpap/bipap? is it because I'm not getting any stage 3/4 sleep? when I sleep on bipap I still have memory problems and chronic fatigue.

4 hours a night won't give you a chance to feel better. I suspect you didn't get much during your sleep studies because the events were causing arousals and stopping the progression of the sleep cycle. With proper use of machine you will get those cycles.

I think I feel some sort of throat sensation when I sleep better, maybe all of this is thyroid related
