Cold to the touch. I raised the setting to 86. Turned the unit back on and waited for 5 minutes. Felt no difference in air, so I checked water. Still cold to touch. Felt warming plate underneath. Also cold. I unplugged unit, turned on, waited 5 min, still cold. Then unplugged, selected warm up. After 5 minutes, the water was warm to the touch. Went back to sleep. This morning the water was cold.

3 replaced humidifiers and 1 replaced S9 unit. I can only assume this is normal for the S9 with humidifier. I'm going to inquire about switching to a different brand since I'd swear there's something with waking up dry. I also have one of the units that make a faint clicking sound, even when off. Even with all the replacements. I'm getting the feeling Resmed is an inferior product.

Is there a better unit I should be asking my doctor for?
I am wondering if it just what your expecting isn't happening? You are expecting heat, right? Warm air? While the thing is a humidifier not a heater.

Don't forget the air turbulence will add moisture to the air and if this unit has a moisture sensor it may not need to add heat, except during the pre-heat mode. Does is have air flow during pre-heat?

Perhaps a better way of determining if it is working would be to measure before and after. Tho even that could depend on the ambient humidity.

HTMS - Hope That Makes Sense?

Just don't expect heat. I have a room humidifier that does NOT use any heat.

Pugsy's right. I much prefer using the separate Fisher & Paykel HC 150 humidifier instead of the integrated humidifier for any machine. It can be connected to any brand/model of xpap machine. Heats so well, I usually keep it turned wayyyy down except on the rare occasions when I used a Full Face mask (mouth breathing in a FF mask can be very drying) -- I'll turn the humdifier heat up about midway then.

An F&P HC 150 humidifier and the Aussie heated hose....love that combo. And I don't have to buy a different humidifier or proprietary heated hose if I switch to a different brand machine or have a different brand as a back up or as an extra machine.

That's about the only sensible comment in this whole thread.

You don't need heat to humidify and the fact the heater/water feels cold isn't an indication the humidifier isn't working.

You don't need to do a warm up cycle before use. It's optional. The humidifier will still work.

And to those people who don't have a S9/H5i - you can't help. The H5i works in a unique way and is in no way comparable in operation to any other humidifier. So saying what 'yours' does just serves to confuse.
