Oh, VERY good! Ten points!
It would be nice to have vulgate versions of the clinician manuals.
Now widely available, thanks to the modern version of Gutenberg's press (laser and inkjet printers)!

I have a nice roomy one you can borrow... it has room for a cpap inside!

Now if we can just get clear access to the holy APAP algorithms to compare proprietary doctrines, definitions, and responses. (Are the S9 monks listening?)

And is anyone up for a debate on the validity of a DME-centric universe versus a patient-centric one? I volunteer to play Simplicio.

I'm all for patients being in full charge of their treatment, but some people would also jump on the first opportunity to sue their doctors if something were to happen to them. Responsibility goes hand-in-hand with freedom, so whoever wants the latter must be ready to take on the former. Until that is the case, I'm afraid, the medical community will keep trying to defend themselves with all means at their disposition, thus, making our life harder.

But diabetics test their blood 4 times a day if not more and inject insulin - why can they be responsible for their therapy and we, who only suck air, are considered incompetent. My 80+ mother did it until her last mini stroke, long after we took away her drivers license.

Compliments of Leslie Gore, to the tune of It's My Party

It’s my CPAP, I’ll dial-wing if I want to
Dial-wing it I want to, dial-wing if I want to
You’d dial-wing too if it happened to you

Nobody knows where my manual has gone
It’s nowhere I can find
Why isn’t it in my hand
When it’s was supposed to be mine

It’s my CPAP, I’ll dial-wing if I want to
Dial-wing if I want to, dial-wing if I want to
You’d dial-wing too if it happened to you

CPAP police just walked thru the door
Saying that I can’t dial-wing
Well here’s a little surprise
You all join me and let’s sing

It’s my CPAP, I’ll dial-wing if I want to
Dial-wing if I want to, dial-wing if I want to
You’d dial-wing too if it happened to you

Time to start the revolution!
We'll nail our 95 clinician's manuals to the DME's door.

Actually, the "heretics" were the religious ones, and the people prosecuting them were mostly in it to protect their monopoly in order to keep the power and their money. Henry VIII was obviously not that concerned about being a good Christian.

Also appropriate to our scenario. Lots of the medical mafia are simply going through the motions necessary to milk the patients and insurance companies and we're the true believers trying to get access to the holy data in order to improve ourselves.

You know, when my doctor writes me a prescription for pills, he doesn't know for sure that I'm not going to go home and take them all at once. I dare say in todays world that happens more often than all the time..... All we want is a little air, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. We dont even want to sell our air on the black market! (can you imagine?). Law & Order - CPAP Files.

I am passionate about people/patient rights. I believed the best patient is an informed and empowered one. Someone told me once I should have been a doctor, I thanked them and explained that I would never be a doctor because i would never want to be that ignorant. I can also say with firm assurity that I will also never be a DME.

Diabetes is one case where doctors simply have no choice - you can't go to a doctor/nurse twice or more a day, everyday; and sometimes you won't even have the time. Although, their situation seems simpler: high glucose - inject insulin, low glucose - eat sugar. Analyzing CPAP data is more of a black art, I mean, how many doctors and DME know how to really read that?
I was quite surprised when I talked to my ENT about my turbinate coblation (he also started the OSA treatment and was the referring doctor for the CPAP) and he said that few people are like me, most don't even want to know, but want to just receive the treatment "shrink-wrapped" from their doctor.
I think we should be given the choice - if you want to take matters in your own hands, sign an agreement/release and be allowed to do what you want. But your rights to seek responsibility from your doctors will be limited. In many countries in Europe you can walk into a pharmacy and buy just about any medication you want; prescriptions are only required for narcotics. But try suing a doctor (or pharmacist) for malpractice - good luck with that! They need to have done you some serious wrong for you to even have a chance. Medicine there is a lot less restrictive than here (we've all heard how new drugs come out there first). We could have the option: if you want to hold your doctor responsible, than keep things the way they are now (although I think it's too extreme); if you want to take control, sign a release and swing away!

The worst part is that when they light the fire below the stake they've tied you to, they look all serious and silently make the sign of the dollar in the air.

Cpap hoseheads, forward, march
Puritans ignore them;
Cpap hoseheads, show your starch,
DME's abhor them.

Cpap hoseheads, forward, march
Think what you're providing;
Cpap hoseheads, do your part,
In spite of medicine's deriding.

To the lost and lonely people of the night,
Out of need, they seek direction for their life;
DME's will love you in the darkness,
Take advantage of your smartness,
And refuse to recognize you in the light!

(sung to a possibly recognizable 1968 song by the Boxtops)

Sad, but true.

So, in the end, the key is not to be confrontational.

Tell your doc or DME that you insist on the S9 AutoSet because your Feng Shui advisor said it was a better fit for your bedroom than the S9 Escape.
