I can TOTALLY SYMPATHIZE with your initial feelings. Here's my 1st post, and you can see that your feelings are normal: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=65416&st=0&sk=t&sd= ... set+newbie

Apnea is not an indication of age. I'm not 40 yet. (Don't know how old you are, just saying that the myths are not true.)

I'm concerned about a retreat I'll be going on the end of Sept. I will be rooming with several others, and I really don't want to take the machine and head-gear with me. It's only one night....

Take your gear on the retreat. Your friends will understand. I am not self conscious anymore about wearing the gear. One good piece of advice that I received was to not miss a night. You may not be able to wear your cpap all night while you are working thru some things, but the best predictor of gaining control of compliance is to not skip a night.
Your bedroom partners will be a lot happier sleeping with a hosehead than sleeping with a snorer doing chainsaw imitations all night long.

Welcome to the forum, Susan.

While you're reading up on stuff, here's a link that might be helpful when you run across confusing words and acronyms that we are used to seeing and using in our posts here. We tend to forget it looks like Greek at first!

Links to good places to find definitions, abbreviations, terminology, and acronyms used frequently in sleep studies and in posts by members of this forum:

I'm printing a bunch of this stuff to take with us while on vacation. Gotta have SOMETHING to do at the beach! Just one more thing: someone mentioned a titration study. What is that?

The oxygen company guy called yesterday (they are out of network and he's calling the dr. to have them recommend someone in network) and I just thought, "How does all this work??? Do they fit me? Will they bring lots of stuff to the house? What's going to happen and will I have to have another sleep study?" I guess that was more than one...
