Nord wrote:My husband was dealing with sleep apnea for some time. It was an extremely difficult issue to deal with. Although he was using the machine (and had tried several before he finally found a mask and machine that seemed to work reasonably well) it did not completely solve his health issues. He was always extremely tired and couldn't seem to get the energy to do the things that he needed to be done. On July 26, 2011 he passed away from a massive heart attack. It was extremely sudden and came with no warning. He had been to the Doctor about 3 weeks ago for a checkup and blood work. He was managing his high blood pressure reasonably well and definitely worked with the doctor to kept it at normal levels. This site was one that he came to often in the first while after he was diagnosed. I truly wish that somebody in the medical community would do some decent research into this and come up with some better methods of treatment. Maybe it takes some sort of Celebrity to front this cause. Gord was only 62 and we had many plans for the future. He leaves behind a loving wife, 2 sons, a daughter and 3 grandchildren. He was truly a wonderful person and words cannot express how much we will miss him. Thanks to all of you who answered his questions on this site.
Nord,

So sorry to hear of the loss. Too young at 62.
My thoughts are with you. Thanks for posting this.

You are very right about the need for more practice awareness of the threat to SDB patients who have high blood pressure and that symptomatic tiredness that was not improving. The worry from what you have described (admittedly only a small snapshot here) is the potential for the Dr to have been focusing mostly on lowering blood pressure but not on what appears to have been a possibly predictable & now fatal heart attack. There seem to have been enough warning signs ?.
Sad situation !. In lost a friend 6 or so weeks ago to a massive heart attack but he decided to give up CPAP 3 years ago saying he was fine & no longer needed it.

I am so sorry about your husband. You are so right, people need to speak up and find a better way to treat this dreadful disease.Only the people that suffer know how hard it is.I asked my dr. once if he had ever slept with a c-pap machine,he said no,I said well you should, just for one night so you would know what your patients go through.
May GOD bless you and your family at this time and hold you close in his arms.
I'll be praying for you.

What a devastating loss for you and your family. Thank you for letting us know. Nord was very helpful to me, when I started cpap, and I'm sure he helped many others here. We will miss him.
