My sincere condolences on your loss. Taking the time to write on here is appreciated, and sharing Gord's story may help others who struggle with their therapy to put forth more effort to get it to work. Your dear husband's struggle is a testament to the many problems cpap users encounter and why so many give up. The long term damage to the body cannot be overstated. May his passing, in some way, help others re-commit to making it work for themselves. For those of us who have succeeded in our therapy, we can re-commit to continuing our help to others in need. My thoughts are with you and your family, and, again.... thank you for sharing.

Nord wrote:My husband was dealing with sleep apnea for some time. It was an extremely difficult issue to deal with. Although he was using the machine (and had tried several before he finally found a mask and machine that seemed to work reasonably well) it did not completely solve his health issues. He was always extremely tired and couldn't seem to get the energy to do the things that he needed to be done. On July 26, 2011 he passed away from a massive heart attack. It was extremely sudden and came with no warning. He had been to the Doctor about 3 weeks ago for a checkup and blood work. He was managing his high blood pressure reasonably well and definitely worked with the doctor to kept it at normal levels. This site was one that he came to often in the first while after he was diagnosed. I truly wish that somebody in the medical community would do some decent research into this and come up with some better methods of treatment. Maybe it takes some sort of Celebrity to front this cause. Gord was only 62 and we had many plans for the future. He leaves behind a loving wife, 2 sons, a daughter and 3 grandchildren. He was truly a wonderful person and words cannot express how much we will miss him. Thanks to all of you who answered his questions on this site.
I am so saddened to hear this, especially since he was trying, like everyone else here, to do something about it.

In fact, this really hits home because I too wonder why I still feel tired and often don't have the energy. You are so right that the medical community and the public, needs to take this issue more seriously than they do now because sleep apnea is a silent killer. I think anyone here who is not getting good results and who has a sleep doctor who is not taking their therapy seriously needs to print this and make their doctor read it and demand better attention and care from them. And if you don't mind, that is exactly what I am going to do this month when I meet with my sleep doctor.

I am sorry to hear this and feel very badly for you. Thank you for posting this despite the difficulty you are going through and I hope and pray that you can find some comfort, strength, and healing through this.
