In Empty Nose Syndrome the doctor has removed too much turbinate tissue causing a lack of nasal resistance, the ability to properly sense airflow, receptor damage, etc . The brain becomes confused by this sensation and feels like it can't breathe even though there is more than sufficient opening. Its called a feeling of paradoxical obstruction.
The cones increase the resistance a bit and create a closer to normal sensation. They are not perfect as I still don't feel well but they help. I was becoming very very ill before coming up with that idea. Dr Houser had suggested a couple of things his patients where trying and I somehow thought of trying the sinus cones in desperation.
"ENS is a physically, cognitively and emotionally debilitating condition as good nasal functions are crucial for proper lung functions and breathing, cognitive functions, and sense of well-being." More info on at
ENS Website. Its horrible.
Ironically one of the side effects of ENS is problems with broken sleep...

Hi James,
I'm glad to see you posting, but so very sorry at what happened. Good luck with Dr. Houser!
Slinky, could you arrange a broken nose for that doctor while your at it? And a magic wave at Dr. Houser too, to make he has a solution despite everything.
O.

James,
You have experienced a very tough road with your health issues. I am saddened that the very doctor you went to for help was one that made your situation worse. Your story will certainly help someone who is considering nasal surgery to ask more questions before going ahead with it.
It is great to see you posting here again. Your kindness has helped so many understand their therapy more with the software you developed. You are in my prayers for a resolution and good health in the future.
If there is anything that I can do to help you, please let me know.
Karen

James, sure hope this ENS specialist has some suggestions while you "wait". I've missed your input here! I read the article, checked out the condition, horrible. Wishing you a great outcome!
