In Empty Nose Syndrome the doctor has removed too much turbinate tissue causing a lack of nasal resistance, the ability to properly sense airflow, receptor damage, etc . The brain becomes confused by this sensation and feels like it can't breathe even though there is more than sufficient opening. Its called a feeling of paradoxical obstruction.

The cones increase the resistance a bit and create a closer to normal sensation. They are not perfect as I still don't feel well but they help. I was becoming very very ill before coming up with that idea. Dr Houser had suggested a couple of things his patients where trying and I somehow thought of trying the sinus cones in desperation.

Ironically one of the side effects of ENS is problems with broken sleep...

You have experienced a very tough road with your health issues. I am saddened that the very doctor you went to for help was one that made your situation worse. Your story will certainly help someone who is considering nasal surgery to ask more questions before going ahead with it.
