I was able to get in touch with the author of the story and she is getting information for us on how best to help James.
She said something about a posting on facebook and also a possible link to a PayPal account.
I'll post when I hear from her again.

Sorry, Kelly, but we have no idea who you are. We have no way to verify that you are funneling the money received to James.

Yes, I have thought about this. Maybe once the surprise aspect of this fund raising is over, James will post his Paypal account.

An option she made available was to have checks made payable to James sent to her and she would pass them on to him before his trip to Cleveland.

I did that, too...I contacted Wendy Elliott at the newspaper she works for. Hey, that made two "Laura's" emailing Wendy.

Wendy emailed me back -- was a little difficult to be absolutely sure what Wendy was saying. Looks like the second paragraph was quoting Kelly Murphy even though it was not in quotation marks. Probably Wendy contacted Kelly about the skepticism (healthy skepticism, imho) on the forum and Kelly wrote Wendy back -- thus the second paragraph in Wendy's email reply to me:

Kelly Murphy is a dear friend of James, she says,

I have opened a paypal account under my email address: murphyk90@hotmail.com or they can transfer money from their account to my email account through their bank. Paypal charges 3.30 per transaction. But give her my email and we will sort it out.

Was thinking anyone who wanted could a cheque made out to James to me at The Advertiser. I’d hand them over to James just before he goes to Cleveland.

So, I think I'll send my check for James to Wendy Elliott at the newspaper address she gave me in her email. Perhaps Wendy will post that snail mail address here in this thread. Or, anyone can contact Wendy (as I did) at the email address on the webpage that had her article about James.

My apologies to you, Kelly, for my being so extra cautious. I'm 99% sure you are a good friend of James', but to be on the ultra safe side, I'll just send my donation directly to Wendy Elliott's work address. You're both doing a wonderful thing for James. Please tell him "hi" from "rested gal."

Part of the reason I don't trust "Kelly" is that she says,

It seems deliberately misleading not to say whether that is 3.3% or $3.30. The way it's worded looks like $3.30. But if she means %, then she has the ability to claim "oh, that's what I meant all along."

In point of fact, PayPal charges 2.9% + 0.30 USD. You'll have to do your own search to verify this, and please post a link if this is wrong.
