Taping your mouth has a theoretical risk of suffocation if the power goes out or the machine fails and you don't wake up. There's also the risk of aspiration pneumonia if you vomit and don't get the tape off in time. A number of people here do it anyway.

You may be able to try a different chin strap. Or wrap an ACE bandage over your mouth to keep your lips from opening. I find I do better if I don't use a pillow. Tilting your head up and down may help. You can also concentrate on keeping your tongue pressed to the roof of your mouth before your go to sleep.

The "medically approved" solution if a chinstrap fails is a full face mask.

Actually, if you use the tape you can use it at a diagonal across your lips which will allow you to breathe should you need to but won't keep you from breathing should you need to because what you're needing to do is keeping your lips MOSTLY shut and this works for some people.

YMMV

Yes, we'd prefer to be called Survivors. Call us apnea survivors or maybe something cool like apnea warriors!

Just left my DME with my new PR1 A-Flex! They really did do an even swap for my other machine. Now I am looking forward getting some data to see how things are going. I need to wait 5 days or so before checking?

Nope, just gotta go through at least one night on it The software SleepyHead and the online program onkor can do it daily. And even if you don't check it every day, when you upload the days, you just tell it which days to upload and go from there (at least on the online program, onkor. Sleepyhead software just imports everything so if you miss a day or more it'll still find it and you click on the date you want to see).
