Thanks robyuse and digitaleagle, your advices are very good and helpful, I will take advantage of them for sure. Tonight I Can say that it was my first night with CPAP 6h of sleep, not totally steady, but ok. I've been succesfully using mirage quattro mask I can't wait some effects... I've got 22 years of UARS to make up, I know the change won't come overnight... But evetually it will

Well, I tried your suggestions (thanks everyone)...and with the help of a 1/2 of an Ambien, was able to finally fall asleep w/the cpap! I slept about 5 hours (woke up about every 1.5 hours)...but still, it's something! I think one of the biggest things that helped was turning the a-plex from 3 down to 1. I was able to breath on "my schedule"...it was so much better! I used the humidifier too. I was also worrying that the machine was keeping my husband awake, but he said he barely notices it (yeah!). That is one less thing to worry about while trying to sleep with all this new stuff.

Like you, CatherineF, I've got many many years of UARS to make up for too. I wish you luck too! And you to ozze_dollar. I'm so sorry to hear that you are having a hard time.

I am also new 6 nights and only one night did i sleep 8 hours and that was the night i took theraflu night time cough syrup.. Now i know its not good to take more than about a week but i just took it that night and none since but it may be worth a try to get a good nights sleep...

Dont give up everyday i feel a little better i had setbacks already had to switch masks but hang in there...
I haven't slept 8 hrs in more than 20 yrs. I'm 63. Took to Bi-Pap like duck to water. QtroFF fx took just a little messing with my strap tensions to arrive at optimum seal with comfortable fit and although I don't sleep on my stomach, I do roll from left to right w/ no problems. 8 hours is the holy grail....but quality is the objective, and stamina will ensue.

Amen to this!

Quality of sleep---measured both objectively (in terms of AHI, sleep efficiency, and total sleep time) AND subjectively (in terms of the proverbial "How do you feel?" and whether you wake up "refreshed") is indeed the goal. And some of us simply don't need as much as 8 hours of sleep every night. So total sleep time needs to be measured in the individual's needs and not against the "average" or "norm" for the whole of the population.

robysue, whose goal is to get 6--7 hours of high quality sleep and wake up refreshed each morning
