I get amused at people selling well-used ones, trying to get a price that overlooks:
- what they paid the provider included setup and coaching, that at least doubles price
- a used machine with expired warranty
- cleanliness (I opened and cleaned each spare I've bought)

Yes, spare plural, one for travelling, good thing as my original one quit - dead.
I have repaired two of my machines as well, my body my choice.
Mine too. And, Respironics and Philips/Respironics used that Classic/Legacy style for many of their machines even after they went to the System One style.
I managed to find at least four of the "previously owned" ones I acquired which had 10 or fewer blower hours on them. They're getting harder to find these days, but there may be some still on CraigsList here and there.

They were "state of the art" and "fully data-capable" 7 - 10 years ago, and for what I need, they work just fine. They blow air and tell me how my therapy is working.

I see you've been around here since 2006. Glad to see you're still hanging around the forum.

For the RemStar classic breadloaf there is a hardware-software lashup for testing by factory and repair techs, perhaps uses a standard PC serial port.

Extra connectors are likely for factory and repair testing. (The circuit board will be tested on its own before installation, then as part of the complete machine.)

Full testing in the factory is important for quality and production efficiency. (I do not know what Respironics did, that’s just my expectation for a serious product.)

they no longer support these old machines.

THEY (Respironics) may no longer support them, but places like http://www.acbio.com probably still have parts for them or can do some repairs on them (depending on what's wrong).

See? There IS a reason we need old threads.

That would be like "the pot calling the kettle black". I think she's a year or two older than me.

I certainly hope acbio.com (Accurate Biomed - member Accurate) keeps parts available for the older machines. I've been meaning to ask Ian about that. I'm putting some serious hours on my main PR 960 autoSV and I love that machine. I've got a backup but I've always insisted on keeping my backups tuned-up in first class condition and ready to go in case of an emergency.

Has anybody had experience with Accurate Biomed and them providing older parts

BTW: I love these old technical posts.

I haven't had the need to check lately. But, back in 2010, I purchased some "outlet port kits" from them for one of my Legacy Pro 2 machines for only a few dollars each........to replace one in a "never used" machine I bought off of CPAPAuction back then. Considering that I have a sufficient number of backup machines now, I doubt that I would need much more from them. But, you never know. Since they have several sites in the U.S., I suspect they keep a fair amount of parts on hand. And, some of these places have access to purchasing some of the "surplus" machines that are sold from time to time (auctions) when places like hospitals upgrade their equipment. You could use lots of the parts from some of those machines for replacements to fix others.

Yeah, I'm sorry that Doug's (DSM) website no longer exists. It had quite a few pictures and reference materials on it for years.
Every time someone posts pictures of their "fixes" or the insides of any of these machines, I try to save them.

Looking inside a few old RemStar breadloaf machines, I found:

- One whose PCB is labelled Poseidon, whose pump is quite different.
(Searching with DuckDuckGo.com and Google I see
> Invacare Poseidon passive humidifier, Omega shape (perhaps sits vertical), https://www.manualslib.com/manual/78005 ... eidon.html
> A Poseidon company in the diving and emergency rescue breathing business.
> A Poseidon company in the business of disposable items for medical work.
History there somewhere.

- One whose PCB is labelled Auto 2 or such.
(Quite difficult to find diagrams of PCBs for the breadloaf, many variations.)

- Pumps in models of more common Respironics breadloaf designs are not interchangeable, one has an extra connector for example (essentially same housing and airflow path).

- There are small differences in the plastic housing of the typical pump, apparently to reduce risk of bits from the insulation block getting into the pump.

Somewhere I made notes....

And I note that late production has a label on top in front of buttons to help user understand what they are. (But perhaps not on units sold outside the US, even Canada would probably force bilingual.)

Plus of course the filling label on the newer humidifier design to prevent water getting in the flow sensor. Respironics did not go all the way - I'd have explicitly stated damage to machine could result from carrying with water in it (yes, there is a check valve etc. but I doubt that can be fully effective).
