Omigod!
This is the solution to EVERYTHING!
MuffinCare will not only provide health care to every U.S. inhabitant, but pay for a Blanket EMR as well!
Let's see, the GN Surcharge:
(# of guns owned)(marrying your cousin penalty)(# of beers/day) = GNS Basis
Credit for working in a profession that requires carrying a weapon... (GNS Basis)(0.7) = Adjusted GNS (AGNB)
(Sorry, you can't get away Scott-free if you married your cousin, etc.)
Calculated AGNB = Annual Gross Income
Please send in electronic payment.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Now get back in the factory and build some more Stukas.

It seems to me that hackers could care less about EMRs. What could they possibly use that data for? They'd make a heckuva lot more $$$ breaking into credit card and bank accounts.
Let's see what info might some doctors have on file? Name, date of birth, social security number, drivers license number, home address, employer's name, insurance info, list of prescription drugs that may be in the house, info on whether there are guns in the house, info on where old, infirm, and hard of hearing people live, whether they live alone, dates of appointments when the home may be empty, info on how much medical care they can afford, list of doctors they go to, maybe even credit card numbers. Nah, no criminals would want that info. What was I thinking?

Do you even have a mind to waste? Are you saying Hi-Tech Hackers are going to use that level of technology to do B&E?
If you're talking about a
Security Breach, that has a snowball's chance at the hands of a garden variety hacker, and off the risk vs rewards screen for a sophisticated hacker. If you're talking about a
Privacy Breach, an EMR is undoubtedly safer than paper.

After a few months of successful CPAP treatment many patients find the level of paranoia declines. Good luck with that.

Well, then post your name, date of birth, social security number, drivers license number, etc. here.

As soon as I find the hidden meaning in that sentence, I will reply to it.
I believe that privacy was well worth protecting back in the day when there was any to be had.
Information wants to be free.
Databases, like all bases, can be stolen whenever the pitcher ain't lookin' or the catcher has a slow arm.
I always thought NotMuffy was a gun enthusiast, based on the pictures in the posts. Now that I know he isn't, I may head on up for a visit! I was afraid the girl in the tank with the shooting thingy was parked in his front yard.
See ya in a few, NM. I'll bring the tea and mu . . . .
Oh, never mind.

That be "satire".
Although interestingly, Muffy had a "job" once that required the use of a "weapon".

NotMuffy wrote:So now I have a question.
Of what value is the Gun Nut Database (GND) derived from the "Do you practice gun safety?" query anyway?
I wouldn't think it would be worth much in states where most guns are registered and law-abiding gun owners have permits. The government already knows about those folks, and most of the few who have no permit and ONLY unregistered weapons probably won't give this information up to nosy doctors and their office techs.
OTOH, I'm sure there are plenty of people in the private sector who would love to get their hands on a comprehensive GND. It would be very useful to gun and ammo retailers, thieves, bill collectors, repo men, serial killers, etc.

Well, they should be able to catch them then, considering the ATF paperwork involved...

My debit card number was stolen almost a year ago. No gun purchases, just gambling. Idiot.

Does this mean that all this time NotMuffy has been going off all un-half-baked about the Dillon?

I just don't know
what to believe anymore.
