Announcing Onkor: free, open alternative to Encore Pro/Viewer

Hi all. Some of you may have been following my progress on the
Onkor software in another thread, but I'd like to announce this software since I recently made version 1.0 and moved the site to its own domain name at
http://www.onkor.net.
The software runs in your web browser (no installations required) and will show waveform and summary data for Philips Respironics System One CPAP/APAP machines. You'll just need to upload your data directly from your SD card. Features include interactive zooming on events, calculation of summary indeces including AHI, and timezone adjustments. Screenshot below.
Thanks to all those who have helped me thus far. There will be more updates coming!

That's very generous of you. As you can see, I don't have that machine, but those who do should be grateful to you.

Mike,
Thank you for all of your work on this project. I am interested in trying out your program, but I have a couple of questions.
I looked at your privacy statement and you state that you keep the files we upload and you believe that there is no personal identifying data.
Do you really need to keep our data?
The initial step is to input the machine serial number P00XXXXXX, it seems to me that this could let someone with access to the registration of our machines could link the data to a person. I am not sure how worried I am about this, but is there a way to run this locally or keep things a bit more anonymous?
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis, thanks for the response and questions. You're correct: at the moment, if someone knew your serial number they could view your reports. Password protecting these user report areas is an upcoming enhancement. I didn't want to do a halfway job and give the illusion of security, and thought it was better to just keep it open until I could do the job right.
Setting this software as a website has some pros and cons, and perhaps the most prominent negative is that a user (you) has to upload your datafiles to another server managed by another person (me). On the plus side, you get greater convenience of constant improvements without having to install new software. It's a similar tradeoff as using Gmail for your email (Google keeps all your email) instead of Outlook of Thunderbird.
While it is technically possible to get a copy of
onkor running on your own computer, it's not that easy for a non-programmer. However, I believe jedimark and perhaps others are writing their own software, which I think is desktop (i.e. not website) based.
I really understand your concerns, which is why I put those statements on the site. I know this isn't what you were getting at, but I will take the opportunity to mention that I intend to keep this software free, open, and ad free, and have no intention of using uploaded data for any purpose other than improving
onkor. I've made all the code I've written available to the public and tried to share everything I've figured out about the Respironics File format so that other developers could write their own software using what I've learned/done.

Mike has done a bloody good job at getting the ball rolling. Wouldn't of even bothered starting the other project without his initial decypherings..
There's not a lot of identifiable data in your SD card. I don't think linking your IP address or serial number with some information about what time you had an apnea last night will compromise your personal security all that much. Then again, I'm not evil enough to envision how to use that for nefarious purposes. And I'm pretty darn sure neither is Mike. :-}
Other systems such as ZEO Sleep Coach use a similar online approach.
I should also point out Mike's solution is available _NOW_, and Encore is a slow bloated heap of junk.. and using Encore without a license like a lot of people do, doesn't exactly make Philips Respironcs very happy.
And this very feature on his system can allow more experienced members of the CPAPTalk forum to offer help in a way that would not be possible otherwise.
Be not afraid and give Onkor a test drive!

As a technical geek, I really appreciate the work you have put in. Its nice to be able to plot the wave form data in something other than audacity.

Hi there.
Please don't shoot me down for what I'm about to ask...
What am I getting from your program that I'm not getting from EncoreViewer?

Personally, I would NOT provide the serial number of my privately owned medical device to anyone other than the manufacturer, the reseller, or a licensed medical facility.
