I'm going to add my own category, "the ridiculous bureaucratic wasteful system which modern medicine in the U.S. has become."

In my case, I had to go to the Mayo Clinic before getting any hint of the nudge toward sleep study.
And make no mistake, they wanted to investigate all manner of EXPENSIVE and TRADITIONAL medicine first.
So I had no trouble checking the box "medical community absolutely ignorant"

Sleep studies are expensive too, and doctors would be irresponsible if they did not otherwise check all of your systems to see what else might be involved. Even if you had a sleep problem, apnea or something else, that wouldn't rule out thyroid, neurological or other issues that need to be addressed.
