If you decide to get this, I hope you like the way that neoprene smells.. because the whole things is lined with it and I'm sure that smell would be overpowering to some people.

Truthfully, I don't hear the machine at all. I DO hear the conducted noise in the hose and mask, more so with some masks than others, and--inexplicably--more on some nights than others. Also, when I wake in the morning, I can almost NEVER hear the noise at all--there's no logical explanation for that as I hear everything else perfectly.
I do wish there was something that would get rid of the conducted noise. I'm not really a big fan of sleeping with Darth Vader. It doesn't keep me awake or anything, but I'd sure like to lose it!

I don't hear ANY noise from my machine and the lights are not bright enough to bother me. My husband is thrilled that I no longer wake him up with my snoring so he certainly hasn't complained. We always sleep with a fan running so I'm sure that helps cover any possible noise the machine might make. The only time I ever heard anything significant was when my hose had a leak. Fixed that problem and I'm doing great again!

It would probably help a bit, but
silencing equipment with an enclosure is pretty difficult to do when air is needed. Most of the sound tends to bounce around and go out the hole. You'd want acoustical foam wedges instead of neoprene to stop that from happening. And to keep the sound from going through the walls of the box, it should be built form something more massive than polyurethane foam. To me, this looks like a good idea in need of an engineer. I suspect you'd get almost as much noise reduction, maybe even more, by putting your machine on a carpeted floor under the bed.
The apparent viral marketing posts make me even more skeptical. Any company that sends people to forums pretending to be end users should not be trusted. These are the only two posts by "shaund" since he joined three days ago.

A sound dampener disguised as a hassock seems like a good idea, but I don't have a bedroom the size of Rhode Island where a hassock would look like it belongs. I'd be more interested in a nightstand with a sound-dampening interior cabinet. That way, I've got a spot for the alarm clock on top of the nightstand and I can open the front door of the cabinet to turn off the machine.
I"m surprised nobody has yet posted the most effective cpap silencer...

That also works exceptionally well on alarm clocks.

FYI, I hadn't seen these posts before. I saw an ad on FB for the Silencer, and I thought it might be helpful to some here. I have absolutely nothing to gain by letting people know that such a thing exists. (I can't speak for shaund, of course, and I'm not implying that you're accusing me of anything, Otter; just making it clear that I have no motive.)

I definitely wasn't accusing you of being a shill for the hassock company. Given the similarity of the titles of your topic and shaund's topics, I can see why you might be worried someone would think you're with him. But
you are obviously a real member of the community here. It never even occurred to me you were anything else. You've been here almost two years and posted 1495 times. The fakes don't put in that kind of time. If you were involved with the product, I bet you'd be soliciting opinions to make it better rather than trying to hide your involvement.

Nah. Breathing is a good hobby. It's even good for your health.

Hey -- thanks for the idea of using a mouse pad! I think that will make just the little bit of difference I need. When my machine was new, it was quite quiet, but recently it seems a bit louder.

Hey, this thing might work well for cpap-chuckers too! (EricinNC, Mikey, are you listening?)

Hi I just logged on to check this out since I posted a year or 2 ago.
So here is the scoop.....
I am a real customer with a CPAP Silencer. I am an engineer and this thing is perfectly designed and build.
I am totally sold on this thing and would pay 10x as much for it.
There is no Neoprene odor in mine
The air intake vent on a typical machine is about 1 sq inch. The screened hole on my CPP Silencer is a bit larger.
When You buy one of these they include instructions to face the back of the unit away from the user AND they give you a longer 8' hose to allow it.
I have severe sleep apnea so my machine is constantly running at a high setting this makes it very loud.
The combination of getting my machine away from my head and down low installed in this silencer box facing backwards has just about eliminated every spec of noise
My husband was also just diagnosed with Sleep Apnea so I ordered him the more "manly" Large leather CPAP silencer and he can't wait to get his machine and start his therapy
There are 2 problems with the unit I ordered...1st.the small one is just to small for a humidifier so I had to pay to ship it back and get a larger one The 2nd problem is that since they do not use ANY glue the back corner of the Neoprene won't stay flush against the corner wall. So there's like a 1/4 inch gap in the corner that I put a drop of glue on to fix.

With both Respironics and ResMed having heated hoses now and both machines being virtually silent it will be hard to find a market for these today. I wish you luck with your invention.
